No pics, but the Garmin Quest is an outstanding compromise. It has voice nav, but you can also take it out of the vehicle--20hr battery life. compact, with a very readable screen.
The downside is the limited memory, (but I understand that the quest II addresses this) and it isn't compatible with the TOPO! software. It will do garmin topo stuff though. __________________ No problem, I'll just tow the pig to Salt Lake on a UHAUL trailer...... 95 T100, beater edition 01 Sequoia Limited 02 Camry--Poor replacement for an 80 "A vehicle's capabilities are inseparably linked to the mental instability of the driver"

Another vote for the 276C if you need something to use offroad (and on road). I love mine If you're not headed off road there are far cheaper and more user-friendly models.

I'm using a Garmin 478 with US Maps.
It's ideal for roads and OFF ROAD use. PS: I'm selling a 276C PLUS: http://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/183703-garmin-276c-plus.html __________________ Land Cruiser FZJ80 1996 / ARB Winch Bull Bar / OME Competition 5" / Super Swampers SSR 35x10.5R17 & 34x10.5R17 / Safari Snorkel / Tough Dog Adjustable Panhard Rods / Rhino Linings / IPF 900 Lights / Garmin 478.- Last edited by FZJ80_YV; 10-19-07 at 08:56 PM. |

Quest isn't a good choice for truck nav since the screen is TINY. I use Quest 1 on a dirt bike, and have ordered a refurb 2610 for $189 from eBay for the LX. John Davies Spokane WA |

For you guys with Garmins mounted below the OH console, can you please elaborate on how you made a bracket and where it mounts?
I would like to put my new 2610 there... maybe. I need to be able to remove it so I can use it in other vehicles with the bean bag mount. Is that possible, or does it have to be hard-wired to the OH with a remote speaker? Thanks. John Davies Spoknae WA |

This is how i have mine set up. The GPS is a bluetooth Garmin GPS 10. I taped cardboard to the pda cradle and drilled a hole through the back of the cubby hole. The cradle wedges in the cubby hole pretty tight and doesn't fall or move. Works pretty well for me.

Two GPS units. The in dash, street type which comes with the 100, and a Lowrance Global Map 100.
I am making the Lowrance more of a 'permanent fixture' in the Cruiser. I ordered up a RAM mount for it, and am installing a DGPS beacon antenna to work with the Lowrance for even better accuracy. So I will have the Lowrance in it's cradle, with external EA-3 antenna plugged into unit, and DGPS beacon receiver plugged into the unit, which also feeds a +12V supply as well. Will post pictures as soon as I begin the project. I am just waiting on the cradle, the external antenna, and the shakespeare DGPS antenna to screw into the beacon. __________________ 2004 UZJ100 "El Rinoceronte" - Gotta pay to play...
