Hand Held CB

Does anyone have an opinion on a hand held CB vs built-in? And which hand held would be recommended if one didn't want to do an install?
TIA

I just got a Cobra handheld and it works great! With the limited space in a LC I think its the right solution. Plus you can easily unplug it and noone will no its there

I've got the Cobra 38WXST HH and it works great on trails, but I will be doing permanent CB install soon.

Why the permanent install? Better range?

midland 788-882 (or some # like that)

it is both in-car wired or handheld so you can choose.

Did you mean handheld or a CB where all the "guts" are in the mike also which is wired to the vehicle? A little difference between the two. It wouldnt change my answer but for the other posters it might make a difference

Do you guys mean there is no external antena to mount on the outside of the truck with these. I'm going to get a 2m radio in the next couple weeks, but this would also be nice to have just in case i need it.

I don't relly want CB and Ham antenas on the truck.

I have a Cobra HH Roadtrip I purchased for a local outing, but never got to use. I planned on listing it on eBay, but will work a deal with you if this is the item you are interested in. PM or email me if you are interested.

Details and specs are located in the following link: http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=...ct_id=441&id=1

Indeed. Buying it might be a trick, though, as it seems to have been well and truly discontinued.

Nope, it's not discontinued, just on backorder from the manufacturer. http://www.midlandradio.com/comersus...?idCategory=41

However, it is still immediately available at plenty of online retailers. Ex. - http://www.www.premiere-electronics....land75822.html

Right you are. I looked for one a month or two ago and the back-ordered pages were about 1/3 of the total, with the remaining 2/3 claiming the radio was discontinued (this seems to be one of the few remaining examples of such a claim: http://radioproshop.com/midlandcb/midland75-822.htm). Glad to know it still exists, thanks.

A buddy of mine uses a Cobra like that (not sure if it's exactly the same) and seems to like it.

I had the midland unti which was ok (nice feature was that it could come out and go for a walk if stranded)
I now have the cobra unit where everything is in the handle. I use a perm mounted firestik antenna and the range & quality is much better than the midland was.
I also just installed a ham rig and I just went with 2 antennas since I run with lots of cb folks but I wanted ham (I hope to convert as many to 2m as poss).

this is a link to my install
enjoy
