Eliminating RF Noise from accessories?
I am having trouble with RF noise on the radio from my Monster Ipod charger/transmitter, phone charger, and in particular, Garmin.
It doesn't seem to be noise in the wiring. They are all plugged in to aux 12v receptacles that go straight to the battery and the static and wine that I notice on the radio goes away if I keep the accessories plugged in, but put them in the back seat. I was thinking of trying to shield the wires, specifically the Garmin's, to minimize this. Has anyone else dealt with this or noticed these types of problems before? |

You might try this website
http://www.k0bg.com/noiseid.html It has been very helpfull for me. Without knowing a lot of specifics, noise abation can be very difficult and time consuming. Ferrite beads, RF shielding, ground issues all come into play as does how well your radio system in general is setup. Everything you mentioned seems like it could be suspect for RFI, how to figure which is the major contributor might be the difficult part. Keep in mind you might just be able to minimize RFI and not eliminate it completely if you are using all of those accessories during radio operation.
