Earthmate GPS LT-20 with Street Atlas USA 2006 by Delorme

I have been looking at getting some type of system and found that

http://www.compusa.com/default.asp

Compusa.com (NO affiliation) has it for $49.00. Two hoops to jump thru to get the price! (Damn coupons!) One is a $20.00 mail in and the second is a $10.00 coupon that requires you to mail a photocopy/scan of your "old" software CD/DVD to show that you are upgrading. (Uh, image search)

Anyway, not real technical but since it is a good price I thought I would spread the word.

Now to look for some good topo software!

Scott

That's a good price. I have the Delorme S.A. and Microsoft Streets and Trips but I always use the S&T for everything. For some reason, I don't find the S.A. to be as user friendly (with or w/o GPS). However, the S.A. software does have more GPS bells and whistles than the S&T. Delorme still needs to perfect their zip code database; it's a bit funky IMO.

Enjoy your new toy!

Ali

Well, to further update it is the 2007 Street Atlas. I just loaded it today and I believe that the learning curve will be steep for a little bit. (I could sit through the 20pg tutorial but that would be to easy) . I just like the gadget factor and it will help out when I get it all figured out.

Are you running the Delorme Topo?

I dig the software, but I'm not impressed with their receiver. I've been trying to find a better USB based GPS receiver to use with it, but have yet to really look around. My folks got me the latest edition of Topo USA for Christmas, so once I free up some HDD space, I'll be checking that out as well.

What about it is wrong? My biggest thing is that they could have thrown an extra 2' on it and made it a little longer. I used it with the usb cord for my mp3 player and that seemed like a better length to set the receiver on the dash.

I am looking for the topo on sale somewhere.

Cord length is no problem here, but it takes the thing forever and a day to get a signal (and I have it secured as far forward under the windshield as possible), and if it's cloudy at all, it just won't do it. I've also been told it has problems when around trees or mountainous terrain, but I've never had it working long enough to find out if that's true or not

Very possible. I think Mark W mentioned in a previous thread that he's got a USB receiver that works like a champ. I've been meaning to hit him up and see if he can find out the mane/model of it.

Have you pestered Delorme yet with an Email? I would think that they would atleast respond with some sort of idea or resolution.
