engine maitenance

140 000 km on my 2H. What types of things should I be doing at this point to the engine specifically to get the most milage out of it. I've read about cracked pre-cups - i think- is it worth trying to fix that stuff or should i just drive it till it dies and open it up then?

140K is still young ,not even halfway through its servicable lifespan.
Clean fuel, clean oil and filters and every so often the injectors need replacing.
The inj pump on these go forever.
If its running clean and starts ok I would leave it.

What they lack in power they make up for in low maintenace and good fuel economy

the advise Rosco gave is good with the oil and filters. With mine I check and adjust if necessary the valve clearence every 6 months or so if the adjustment is out they will wear uneven and are expensive to replace but can be reground. This can also effect the timing some.If you are a steady driver every 12 months is plenty even longer is ok.. I also undo the coolant drain on the exhaust side of the motor and let it run a bit to see if any rust or partial blockage is there.I also run my fuel tanks right down once a year and drain some fuel and check it to see if there is water or if the fuel has bactiria and gone brown. I use mostly drum fuel so I always use Lucas fuel conditioner. In northern Oz once the 2H gets up about 250,000ks we usually run 20 50 oil because of the higher temperatures. I would fit an after market oil pressure and water temperature gage and if you notice higher than normal oil pressure change out the pressure relief valve quickly. Do regular checks on your fan to make sure it cycles correctly.Once a year check the play in the water pump ,check the belts and replace the coolant.Head problems in the 2H are caused by the same problem in the 1Hz,95% of the time it is poor maintainance from clogged or split radiators , broken belts or faulty water pump or thermostat. My engine has run trouble free for 10 years and the truck was not new when I bought it I would suggest yours may have had an easier life. Also once a month engage your hubs and put it in 4WD and drive a short distance at least if you are not using 4WD. Might pay to get a manual and get more familiar with your truck. You should have a long trouble free run.

haven't searched yet... but can someone tell me where the pressure relief valve is located, and how high "high" oil pressure is? Mine runs all the way up the guage at startup, but then settles down

Dude .. don't believe the factory gauges .. 2H manual claims about 36 - 62 PSI is normal range for operative temp at 2000 rpm ..

At idle at least 4PSI is acepted as good ..

Mine 2H keep ( now with turbo oil line and charge ) at least 20 PSI idle and opertaive temp ..

mine is an aftermarket guage. At startup I blip the throttle to get pressure up, it spins all the way around to 80psi+, then settles in to about mid-range on the guage... about 40 psi until the motor is warm, then it settles down to 10 or 15 most of the time.

Normal?
