I have an importing thread at the top of the page here in diesel. It is called stickie.

I would recommend trying to get a someone in canada to install the engine. Drive in and fly out. Come back in a month or so.

Maybe someone like Rob Lassman at Radd Cruisers wants a big job like this. Or Wayne at Luxury Imports.

Possibly even G and S guys.....for the right price. It will not be a cheap option.

But you will have a cool truck. In 7 years time the 100 series will be legal to import to Canada from Outside NA.

Then we will have lots of diesel 100's

Not good news!!

Are you serious rick_d? $75,000 for emission testing, that's nuts. Why so expensive?
I guess my hopes of a diesel LC 100 series is shot. I guess it can be done, I've had a price quote of $15000 for the full install, but I can't afford that. How much do you guess thing I can sell the V8 gasser in it now (65k miles, all fluids flushed @ 50k, regular oil changes)

Do you guys in the US not get LPG or is there no advantage to it. In the UK you get effectively in cost the same fuel mileage from an LPG Cruiser as a Diesel one because although you lose a bit of economy (goes down to about 12 - 14 mpg) you get LPG for a little more than a third of the price of petrol here so it works out about 28 - 30 mpg in cost which is about what I achieve in my Diesel.

we have 2 LPG, propane and natural gas.'

propane goes up and down with the cost of oil, and is almost the same price.

nobody uses natural gas fully, so you have to search for a fueling place. plus the gas is only in gas form and you really have no capacity, so you are filling up all the time.

If the UK got gas as cheap as we do you would not care if you got 14 mpg.

Fuel in town right now is $1.05 per liter canadian. or 0.51659 British Pound per liter......cheap for you guys.

there is one testing facility in the US in Ann Arbor. Testing fee + one fully dressed engine + one complete test vehicle (according to ENS when they tried to get the mine trucks US approved, identical response from ICI in Baltimore last year- basically diesels are screwed).

Tier II standard kick in 2007 and the HDJ100's in Germany pass a similar standard with an additional "black box". But this item being non Toyota Japan made makes things ugly. Call the ICI's and ask more questions. My advice to all, get what you want this year because life will only get harder.

All of us know that deisels are the worst engines in the world and cause solar flares, bird flu, etc (at least that what most groups in the US tell you). But burning deep fryer oil is somehow more pure. LP may now be an option, but in 1998 I considered converting my FJ60 (in AZ) and was told not only would I still have emissions, but also a second inspection annually for the conversion. Best of all, no break on registration etc.

You can have a HDJ100/105 but you will have to build it. You don't have to go north of the border, but it will cost you some coin and more coin if you don't do the work yourself. The idea of a truck in pieces won't get past any level 1 inspection without an import certificate so scratch that.

You are right there, with Diesel now pushing £1 per litre and petrol nearly that, economy is paramount. One of the excuses I had for trading my 2LTE powered Surf for the 80 series, fuel economy is about 5mpg better on the Cruiser because the engine isn't so stressed out keeping up with the traffic. I used to be luck to get 22mpg out of the Surf wheras I can get 28 out of the Cruiser and still keep up on the motorways.

I am interested in the 1HD-FTE half cut as well. Are you guys saying these will not be available in the US ever or any time soon?

Thanks,

uzj100
