2h wiring question
Just pu tmy 2h back together and running, and now tracing the mess of wires remaining from the po and his mechanic. The wires (2 going to a single green plug), I have a question about are going across the upper rad hose area, and connect to a sensor. I believe these wires are going to the h20 thermo sensor for the glow plugs (if someone could confirm this for me that would be great), and looking at the schematics, if this is the sensor, it should be a variable resistance thermistor having one side direct to ground.
I am curious to the operating ranges for it and what is its exact purpose? Is it a reference for temp for the duration of "on time cycle" for the glow plugs? The pervious owner broke the plug for this and simply tied the wires up out of the way! Nothing like actually fixing what you break! thanks bob

thanks for the pics, not the right area, could you take a pic of the area on top of the intake manifold, pass side of the thermostat housing. There should be a larger sensor there with two wires running into it via a plug. This is the "thermistor" i am questioning function and operating ranges.
thanks bob |

I am not up on it, however yes...it determines the time the glowplugs will get power. Interupt the signal with a momentary switch will fool it into thinking it is colder then it is. This is the premise behind this mod, however instead of overriding the glow screen you would be overriding the glow plug circut: http://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-24-volts-systems/24480-13bt-glowscreen.html Hopefully there is some information in that thread that will help you.
Details on the operating range should be in the appropriate engine manual? Hvae you checked the FSM downloads at Birfield.com? hth's gb __________________ WANT A TOYOTA DIESEL ENGINE? Hi Greg,
thanks... it sounds, and by following the forum that you gave, looks like the critter. From what it sounds/reads if you interupt the circuit (switch or simply disconnect the plug) the glow plugs (in my case) will cycle through on for a greater amount of time. Yes I checked the fsm to no avail, they show the circuit only no perameters. I was hoping someone else with a 2h could measure the resistance pin to pin and pins to ground cold, and then same hot. Then shoot me the information. But i suspect the sensor is bunned, given the info you just provided, which would explain why the po just unplugged it and let the glows cycle on the longer time. again thanks Bob |

Thanks Tapage,
the picture is getting closer. I am looking ofr the top of the intake manifold, beside the thermostat housing. to the passenger side of the upper radiator hose. Shoul d be a green plug (2 wires inside) attached to a sensor. The sensor has 2 "pins" or connection points for the plug. I am wanting to measure the resistance between those to pins with the engine cold , also from each of the pins to the engine ground. I am looking for the diference from measurements done with the engine cold and the engine warm/hot.

Chambers 60,
When I tested my thermosensor on my 2H about three months ago, I found the necessary data in the 2H factory service manual under "starting system". About what temperature is it outside when you go to start your truck in the morning? For example, at 70 degrees farenheit you should read about 2000 ohms, at 32 degrees farenheit 8000 ohms. __________________ 1984 HJ47 Troop Carrier 1973 FJ55 Rusty Wagon 2003 KTM LC4 Adventure 640 |

Thanks Scoot,
exactly what i was looking for. I guess a little of not seeing the forest through the trees! I swear i looked every where in that manual, but sure as hell did n't see that graph! Again thanks exactly what I was needing. Tapage, thought it might be easier if the translator was used, you never know until you try! LOL! Wanted the picture from the pass side because that is the arae where the thermistor is located. Thanks for the time and effort, I think that I have found what I needed by Scoot's suggestion, so I don't need the information I was asking you for as the graph in the manual has it. thanks bob |
