Idiot lights came on won't go off???

On holidays in British Columbia (1987 HJ60) , just out side Veron my Filter and battery warning light came on at the same time. Checked both batteries, (Have Solar Converter) they are ok, within 5% of each other one at 13.05 other just slightly less. Drained the sediment bowl, no water found.

The lights are still on, no other problems, alt. showing proper charge, truck started ok this morning but still the same 2 warning lights stay on.

Checked all fuses, all ok. Must be a short in my alternator/regulator? Still have a lot of driving ahead, hope I can get into a garage to figure this out.

Anyone have any suggestions what could be the problem? Thanks.

Bob

Did you check your alternator output while you have load on it? Both coming on usually indicate alternator charge too low, as you seem to be aware. I would take the truck to an alternator repair shop (someone who does their own work and has parts there), pull the brush assembly, and see if the brushes are just at that point. They are relatively simple to replace, and any shop that does their own work should have some on hand. Cheap and simple repair that will at least give you good process of elimination.

Thanks Greg, I did get to Wades in Kelowna and they found a broken lead. Back on the road again!
