Australian 60 series question

I am looking at buying a mid 80s Australian 60 series, in Australia. What options did an HJ-60 have? Or more specifically did it come with the 2H, cable lockers, and so on. And is the only difference between the Sahara and the regular 60 the raised roof? I ask because I am not familiar with what model cruisers and options were available in OZ around that time. If some of you Aussies (or other knowledgeable gurus) would enlighten me it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not a Ausie, but If you are a lucky men, you can find a HJ-60 JDM with a cable lockers, are not usual. I believe is most easy for you but one with a PTO winch and buy a set of ARB local.

The cable lockers were optional on all the later 60s but are rare.
Most have the LSD except the earlier ones.
All are full floaters
I dont think you have to get a Sahara to have a raised roof.
From my observations you dont get the barn doors and raised roof together, Ive never seen one anyway.
Barn doors are usually on the low spec vehicles.
Most of the 84- are 5 sp and all have the sliding rear windows.
The sunroof ,3rd row seat and rear heater/aircon was also available but not common.
Aircon and a bulllbar is fairly standard.

Good HJ60 sell for about $7-8KAUD and turbo versions are still above $10k for a nice one.
FJ60/ 62 are usually $1-2k cheaper
They are getting hard to find with less than 300000klms on the clock.
Most of them have been family DD or work vehicles for tradesman.
There is plenty of spares available and they are the cheapest cruiser for parts.

The J7 are about the same price year for year although the troopys are hard to get without rust in those years.

Oh and all our cruisers have the dimmer switch

Cable lockers are indeed rare. Nicest ones with best options are the kiwi imported ones with factory ptos and the rest of the good stuff. ARBs are a lot cheaper here than there even though they are made in SA or wherever. Some of us like our 300k HJ's but thats where you start finding probs in my experience. Prices above are close at least in NSW and VIC not sure about QLD. FJ's are cheaper and you can get LPG ones at the same price usually. Another thought would be to avoid most anything by the coast if you can.....95% of their population lives within 30miles of the ocean though... They like to drive on the beach a lot more than we do and the battle scars are easy to spot. Good luck.

Some of us find entertainment in rare/odd things doing very well. A movie that cost less than 50k did 8+ mill in a week in Dvds and its funny as anything and has a G rating.... Sorry if it offends, ill throw up a pic of my 73 or my 75.... other rare/odd things that i enjoy. About the 60 search i think those cool MZ 60s into aus are high roof only. Not 100% but seems to be what ive seen for sale. One other suggestion would be if you are serious you can try for an NRMA inspected vehicle. They will look at and inspect a vehicle you might be interested in and give you a report. Not a value but a report. Lets you know what a pro sees versus someone's advert. Just a thought. My experience is these guys are good and know what bad things to look for. I figure i know the good things, but the bad is what makes me think twice. Good luck, Eric

80 to 84 2F Petrol FJ60
84 to 1990 3F Petrol FJ62
80 to 90 2H Diesel (non turbo) HJ60
85 to 90 12HT Direct Injection Turbo HJ61

Early wagons were either Std or "G"
Standards had swing out back doors with vinyl interior & G had lift up drop down tailgate with Cloth & Carpet
Early Sahara's had high Roof but only Single Air (Dealer fitted like low roof models)
Later Sahara's had Dual Air & Ice Maker (Factory Fit)

Twin Headlamps came out 1987 & were standard across all models regardless of spec
The last couple of years of production the Low Roof GXL was available with Factory Flares,Side Steps, etc the same as the Later Sahara's had
fitted

I copied all of the above from the Overlander Forum.

Also I think in 1984 there was an update which included vacuum activated 4wd and larger side view mirrors.
And the 4 speed was replaced with the 5 speed in late 1982 I believe.
