Diesel Treatment, which one....???

I use STP treatment for lubricity and to clean injectors. Is there a better treatment and why?

Thanks

I assume you mean diesel lubricant added to the fuel each time you fill up. For years I have used Kleen Flow's Diesel lubricant 953 for my H2. A few ounces per tankful., more in cold weather and where the fuel is dirty. The engine is over 400,000km without any kind of fuel trouble. It even smokes less than when I bought it 15 years ago. All truckstops carry it or the same under another brand.
For engine oil I use Castrol 15-40 diesel. I once tried Shell Rotella and the fuel pressure immediately dropped a little, followed by a little oil burning. When I switched back to Castrol, the engine just went back to normal.

Howe's is what most guys use I think. Cleans injectors, lubs the injector pump, improves gas mileage. Costs about $20 at Lordco and a bottle will give you about 10 fill ups.

Sincerely,

Bruce

Lucas diesel duel conditioner, I have always been a big fan of the lucas, since my friend put some Lucas oil stablizer in his old XR that was burning crazy amounts of oil, it immediatly stopped burning oil and ran like a totaly different bike, it was weird!

I use 4 ozs or Stanadyne every tank. I also use 4 ozs of Amsoil additive and Amsoil cetane booster every tank.

I use Lucas. It works and it is easy to find in USA and Australia!

http://www.lucasoil.com/products/dis...tid=2&loc=show
From their site:
Key Benefits

* A great tune-up in a bottle
* Cleans and lubricates the fuel system
* Neutralizes low sulfur fuel problems
* Increases power and miles per gallon by burning excess exhaust emissions
* Increases the life of pumps and injectors

Crushr...

Not to be picky... but being new and all, have you thought of a different name Crushr? Crushers is an old timer with over 2500 posts, and it can get confusing! Maybe he doesn't give a hoot, or is too polite to mention, or maybe I'm being anal... but what about it?

I use kleen flo but only because it is cheap. Like 15 bucks does alot of tanks. I think as long as you use one you are doing well. Keep that injection pump lubed up. They are probably all made from the same crap. Who really knows?

Cheers

What's nice is that everybody is using SOMETHING!

I dont care what, as long as you use something. As they take the sulphur out of the fuel (they're doing that right now) and as we approach 2007 and the ultra low sulphur diesel you'll be killin your injection pump right quick if you dont use some kind of lubricity additive.

Good job all.

I have always used additive in any diesel - usually Stanadyne. The low sulfur fuel is a killer on punps.

As I understand it, it's not the sulfur that lubricates, but the process that removes the sulfur which also lessens the lubricating properties of diesel. You would think that they would fiind some other way to remove the sulfur. Or I may be misinformed...

I'm suprised no one said bio/veggie or b20. I don't think you need to run additive if you run b20 and up. right?

Wesintl,

I currently use Stanadyne, but I am in the middle of building my own biodiesel processor to compensate for the insane price of diesel right now. You mention that additives may not be needed with the use of biodiesel, but I wonder if you can still use it anyway(additives), without it having a negative reaction to the bio?

We never run any additive when running bio, even when running 50/50 in the winter. Bio is really lubricating, and is one of the first things I noticed when running it, quieter engine.

Oops, of course I forgot about that. Yes the lubrication properties of bio are superior. BUT, I would still run an additive to UP the cetane rating of the fuel, AND to help rumove any WATER that might have collected in there.

I'm running up to B80 at times, but still (probably more force of habit than anything) add a bit of Standyne. Doesn't seem to hurt, so I've assumed it helps.

(Red Herring - I'd be happy to change username Crushr to something distinctive if I could figure out how...doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this from User CP. Anyone know the secret?)

Ya... I think your best bet is to e-mail Woody (or PM him here) and give him your prefered name. He can do it from admin. Look under "Member List" to find him.

Doesn't B20 have a higher cetane rating? I can never seem to find a stated cetane for bio... anyway how does additive help remove water? Isn't that what your water seperator is for? noob cetane and additive questions?
