There are references to the BJ56 on Rob Mullen's TLC FAQ and on Damian Lopes's page
Both made mention they are 14B powered but I don't think these Bandys have a 55 series body.

The Bandeirante is not considered by Toyota Japan to be a pure Toyota and not usually included in their production figures.

Toyota in Brazil pretty did what they wanted. If I remember correctly the LC was shipped like a kit then put together in Brazil using their choice of drivetrain which for a long time was a Mercedes deisel. The 55 series sold in Brazil and in some of South America are not the same FJ55/56 we know. It is a different body style.

I like using this japanese pig owners website for some good information. It is my understanding the 55 series had a 2B diesel offered but very few were sold. Most likely they went to military and commercial/industrial use.

I have nothing to add other than I love these classic detective-like threads. So much interesting info comes out!

I think(and I should dig out my Bandi lit)the 50 series in Brazil was a longer 40 series like a 43-ish.

I dont think there was a 55 like we have in Brazil.

I think by the early 60's Brazil was making the Bandi with 100% local content(beside Benz motor) no knock down kits came in(they did in the early years)

I used Mozila to translate, this is what is said on one page, made me laugh

The FJ55V it rusts and drops (the 1)

The FJ55V it rusts and drops (the 2)

The FJ55V it rusts and drops (the 3)

The FJ55V it rusts and drops (the 4)

The FJ55V it rusts and drops (the paint compilation)

Interesting link, MiniPigg. Thanks.

Landpimp, please post scans of your Bandy literature if you can.

yes.. the 55 series in Brazil and in much of South America looks nothing like the FJ55 we know and love. When it comes to vehicles being manufacture in Brazil, the brazilians make it pretty much how they want it. When I was heavy into aircooled Vdubs Brazil was one of the places we looked for unique vehicles. Like the Puma.

Here is a link that I like reading at times.

and one of my all time favorites that i have posted before.

Surprized no one has pointed out the striking similarities to the Mercedes Benz G-wagen or at least that is what he was trying to go for. This is where the rear doors come in, look at the rear rain gutter roof line, and it almost looks like the roof was pitched forward to make the windshield angle steeper and more boxy like a G-wagen? Then the color and body features including running boards. Definetely funky indeed with lots of labor put into it...

Im lost... then again thats no surprise. The rear doors are FJ55 not Gwagen. The cargo doors are not from any Gwagen Ive seen. The roof line... now that looks like mercedes... but the edge of the rain gutter on the pig is right there anyway.

those dont look like any 55 rear ambulance doors i have seen, 55's have a 50/50 split, this one is 30/60-ish split.
