Super Swamper combo with a 3b

Hi all,
I will soon need new tires, as my 35 mudkings are on their last breath, and since most of my wheeling now seems will be in mud, and I do not have the road travel as I did when going to school, I want to go Super Swamper. I want to go 33x12.5, but am undecided between the TSL(8ply) and the TSL radial,(6 ply) and was wondering if there is a big difference between the two, as in weight, and whether my stock 3b will have trouble pushing the extra 2ply, more weight of the TSL?

I don't think you'll notice the 2 ply weight between the same two tire sizes. What you will notice is a radial vs a bias ply tire. I notice the difference in my 3B pushing 7x16 8 ply bias tires. Tire and wheel comes in at 85-90 lbs. ea. I think a 12.5 width tire would kill me at altitude. I'm going with the 34x10.5 ltb's once I have some more funds.

if it is strickly mud then go with a REAL mud tire. do NOT waste your money on Swampers or any other dual purpose tire.

I have used so many swampers of all different types its amazing. Im going to go against Wayne-O here. If you truly are wheeling this truck more than anything else go with a BIAS Swamper 33x12.5x15 tire. That tire is incredable. Deep lugs, 8 ply, you cant hurt it. It airs down wonderfully and last a long time for a bias tire. And it truly IS 33" tall.

I URGE you to look into the IROK series of tires too. Frankly at this time all consencus is that the bias IROK is the best all around 4x4 tire ever made. I know dozenes of guys running them. They all have previous Swamper, Micelin, Goodyear, etc etc etc exoerience and they all are saying that the IROK is the best tire they've every used.

i disagree, i really liked the Trxus SS. very nice all around tire but nonr of the SS come even close to the tire in the pic...

I had a set of the TSL Radials and I will never consider them again. They couldn't even keep me moving in most places that all other types of muddies kept me moving. They have very poor wet surface traction characteristics too.

Out of the two tires you mentioned I would strongly suggest bias ply TSLs.

Im not a radial swamper guy either. The bias TSL 33x12.5x15/16 etc etc are awesome tires.....

I'd still give a nod to the IROK.

Are these tires legal on road, the cops might ask questions, as they look pretty tracktorish.

oh, my mistake, i thought you were looking for an off road stricky mud tire. i did not realise you wanted a street/mud compromise.
these are legal for tractors etc but i would be very hesitant to drive far on the blacktop, not because they handle poorly on the highway but because they would wear very quickly.

If you end up getting bias TSL's I would suggest finding some SX 's as the sidewall is a lot tougher and gives more traction as well

This weekend I went wheeling in the Peace country mud, and a fellow wheeler in a stock f150 with cut out fenders had a set of slightly worn 33 tsl's, and he pretty much idled through all the mud, and I was peddle to the floor all weekend. once I get the funds, TSL's are going on my truck.

Look at the LTBs for sure. They have deeper tread than the tsl s and are cheaper. Their downfall is they don't come in many sizes. They are cheap because they are made offshore for Interco.

Hi Guys,

imho the SuperSwamper Narrow SS in 34x9,5R15 (or other) rocks really hard!
I've seen them on a Volkswagen Iltis (you know it from Bombardier) and the mud-performance is amazing, but the Iltis only weights 1,5t.

I try to get these tires for my cruiser in far future, because i mounted 255-85 BFGs today

Ive had rigs will all these tires on them. I liked the cookie cutter 34x9.5's but they come off the rim all the time. You'd HAVE to have bead locks!



The 33.12.50 bias swampers were fantastic tires. Probably my favorite.



Off all the tires Ive had the SX"s are the toughest I'd say. That includes boggers that Ive run. But I wouldnt say that normal swampers arent good enough for your truck!!

i ran the 33X15.5X15 SX on my cruiser for 2 years. this truck seldom saw black top and yet the tires were bald in the 2 years and the belts were letting loose after the first year.
they did perform very good but for the cost of them i would have expected them to hold up much better. now i run the Goodyear XT terra tire and am very happy. my next set will be the ones i showed earlier. i really like a strickly off road tire but this is not for everyone.
if you ever get a chance towatch Alan put that suzi through it's paces, go for it, it is truely amazing...

Frankly I dont know why anyone would own a regular samurai up there in Canada with the LWB jobs floating around. I know they are getting rare even up there, but they work so much better with the longer wheelbase.

Now I have to consider the LTB! They are over $100 cheaper for a set of 4. The only thing, is that the 34x10.5 is slightly smaller than the 33x12.5 TSL and about 1inch narrower (according to actual measurements on the ss website)

Anyway, has anyone ever run the LTB? What are your thoughts?

Thoughts on LTBs.

We got a couple of sets of the first production run LTBs. Here are a few comments from what I have seen and witnessed with LTBs on cruisers.

1) Typically 1 out of 4 was severely out of round on the 1st drive after mounting. Almost un driveable.
2) Offroad performance was definitely on par with bias TSLs as far as traction goes.
3) Lighter weight= less engine power loss than that of a set of bias TSLs on the same rig.
4) They wear fast if not faster than bias TSLs.
5) Never lost a sidewall on a LTB even though they are a lighter carcass than the TSLs.

Now your have to remember that we got the 1st production run of these tires from Interco. So they may have fixed the molds for a better balanced tire now. We also have very hot off camber roads here= very fast wear on bias type tires. So LTBs with their softer rubber compound might have suffered more so than TSLs in the wear category.

All in all I wouldn't have a problem with another set of LTBs over bias TSLs especially if my funds were low for tires at the time of purchase.

Good tires and definitely on par with bias TSLs for our clay mud and rutted terrain here.

Ya I'll post pics, only that if it turns out I can get them from my guy back home cheaper than national4wd in calgary, I probably won't get them till August.
