dual fuel
interesting:
i was talking to a gent in Ontario about Bio diesel and he mentioned that he will have to pass on the idea since his insurance company will not cover dual fuel equiped vehicles. they are blameing the street racers for the drop of coverage. this also applies to the Propane Injection, you MUST contact your insurance to see if they will still cover the vehicle in the event of an accident. i called my agent and there is no problem at all so i can run all three or either with no problem. i just wanted to warn everyone of the repercusions if you are considering either of these changes to your diesel vehicles... cheers __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! As if anyone would ever know!!!!
The bio isnt ever going to cause anything insurance related, so why worry about it? TB __________________ 2001 VW TDI Bora 1987 Toyota HZTJ-60 I'm a democrat member of the House of Representatives, and I've got what it takes to take what you've got!

the problem is not that it will CAUSE anything insurance related, the concern is that they CAN use that a reason NOT to pay a claim.
it is the same with a lift kit, engine mods, tire size... if you do not inform your insurance company of the modifications they CAN use this to refuse coverage in the event of a claim... if you do not beleive me then call your insurance company and ask them straight out... "if i was involved in an accident and say i had a SOA installed would you still cover my accident claim?" the answer will be "NO we will not HAVE to cover the claim" now they still might but that will be at the discrestion of the adjuster involved. basicly what i am saying is you can be a ostrich with your head in the sand and guess you might be covered or you can make a phone call and find out for sure... it really doesn't matter to me either way. cheers __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! On that sad note above, does this mean that suspension mods like a set o Beltons /Arbs whatever ....means that an insurnace Co. has a sure-fire weasel way out? What if you didnt tell them about a recent install? How would they know if they didnt have pics like above in the first place later on "down the road"? What if you did tell them? Do they make you get an inspection to continue your current coverage?
I guess it makes sense in a way but paint all with one brush is ...well you know....dumb. I can just hear them saying "well Sir, you do have an aftermarket suspension and that voided your coverage". Can you tell I dont like ins co very much. Johnny 89BJ74 |

But thats not a dual fuel vehicle really. its only one fuel. Moot point in my mind. Dual fuel is something that runs on 2 fuels simultaneously, or can carry and switch between 2 fuels... ie, gas/nitrous... diesel/propane... gas/hydrogen... if you only have one tank... it is not a dual fuel vehicle.

all i can suggest is inform them of anychanges so it is on record and maybe call them BEFORE you do a mod... think of it this way: if you are involved in a serious accident, say someone is crippled for life, and your insurance company decided not to support you then you could be out everything for the rest of your life... is it worth hidding some facts from the company? that is up to you, like i said i am no adjuster or your conscience i am just trying to make you aware of what MIGHT happen... cheers __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! once again, for the time it take to make a call it might be worth it... totally up to you, has nothing to do with me... i drive lifted modified trucks with no fear but after a $250,000 accident a few years back i know it can happen. if my insurance didn't cover me i would have been screwed... cheers __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! Diesel/Veggie oil uses 2... but bio you run straight outta the same tank don't you?
However... in the end, you are absolutely right about not wadding into the grey waters of Insurance fine print. Stick to the straight and narrow with them... you never know when you might need them. __________________ 1982 BJ60... Rusty... and not so trusty... Unless your rig is totalled, how could they find out? Even then are they going to drain the tank? Is bio that big a deal that they would look for it? It isnt down here. AFAIR in BC if you have your truck VI'd when you are done your mods, you are ok. This does not mean you will not be pulled over and VI's of the PO thinks you have done mods since the last VI.
Best is to have your mods listed on the VI, better yet have pictures of the truck taken with the VI sheet held in front, dated with the didgy cam... I believe anything over 10cm suspension change from the OEM height requires a VI in BC. Belton is fine afaik, but check your local regs. I do not see how BD is a dual fuel...same tank. WVO is closer...two tanks. Propane injection would be. gb |

BIO VO greenie here...
which uses 2 tanks? which ever uses or has the vehicle equiped with 2 forms of fuel will raise a rad flag, irrelivent wether the tanks are used at the same time or not. as long as they are plumbed in to the engine or anywhere along the feed system then it is classified as dual fuel. it does not matter if the second fuel is highly volitile or not, it is the dual fuel that is causing the trouble (esp in Ontario so it seems). like i mentioned earlier, my insurance company did some reasurech and as long as the PI is inspected and certified then there is no problem what so ever. i agree Greg, a few pics and a list of mods on record at the insurance company will go a long way towards keeping the coverage safe. cheers __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! Biodiesel is not a different fuel it is just diesel from a renewable source. I can't see how anyone could consider that a dual fuel situation. You shouldn't have to make any mods at all to the truck to run biodiesel. Sounds like you were talking to someone (the gent) who didn't have a clue what bio diesel was but was the kind of person to find a fault with everything.
