stateside 24v alternator rebuild info

thought someone might want to know. I got my 24volt hj60 alternator rebuilt by auto diesel electric in reno NV. The armiture/stator was completely rewound, new bearings, brushes and one hell of a cleaning. The alternator stays pegged at around 28 volts. Overall very good company to deal with and a hell of a lot cheaper than new toyota or even a "good" used one. Ask for Rob or Wayne at 775-329-0707 or pm me for details.

Best
David

Good info, David. If you are still there, ask if they can rewound a 24V starter motor into 12V and the other way around. I'm sure a lot of us can use such a service.

If I can get the starter numbers for the 12-ht, 1-hz, and maybe 1-hdt then Rob at the above shop said he would start doing some homework. From what I understood (and i cannot overstate my ineptitude when it comes to these things), the biggest setback is that it takes twice the cranking power for a 12v starter and thus the starter would have to be larger. The armiture is the same in 12v and a 24v, the main difference being in the field coil. But like I said, let's gather the part numbers and see what he can find. i left with a good feeling that it can be done.

Good to hear you got the problem fixed, kind thought something was up after installing the new brushes and not getting more than 18 Volts.

Thanks for the info.

Rob
