Auzzie Wreckers

Anyone ever order parts from Australian wrecking yards? Found a couple which look promising, just waiting to hear back from them with regards to sliding rear windows. I'm not sure they will ship overseas, but if they do... seems like it might be another good parts source!

Shipping can be killer if they are large parts. Why don't you organize a group buy and split the shipping costs? But after all is said and done, the savings may not be much compared to G&S. Plus you cannot easily return the parts if they are DOA.

An interesting website that may help you.

Apraa

You can use the online parts locater and it will send the search through to wreckers all over the country.

Interesting site. I certainly will check with G&S first, but if there is stuff they don't bring in, or don't have... nice to have options

Youll most likely be dealing with wrecking yards on the east coast. I would ask someone on Outer Limits or any other OZ forum.
See if someone will check the price to see if you are being charged the same as the locals
A lot of the ratbags have been pushed out of the industry but there are still a few lurking around.

Dont ever let them know you are desparate for a part

A lot of the larger yards already import F100 and Jeep parts so they are set up for international orders and money transfers

Red, if you want to find a good source for sliding windows I am sure a group buy would work. I know I would like a set.

I have seen them at a couple state side vendors for large sums of money. That doesn't mean they are not getting them from wreakers for little money.

maybe one of the auzzie members here can be persuaded with a free pizza and beer if he comes to Canada, to do some local calls around the yards he knows well on our behalf.

I can't see that it would be worth the hassle for slinding windows, MAF and SOR both offer them for $150 a pair...........yes they need some love as will most all you find in AUS.

No... they both USED to offer them... but have long since sold out. I would have jumped on the SOR set for 150.00, but no can do, and they don't know when/if they will get more.

Did you contact Greg or Sheldon from G&S and ask what they could get them from Japan for. I bet they can get them New or Used. If they can't maybe Wayne from Luxury Imports can get them.

They were not an option in Japan. I have spoken to Greg, and they have none, and if Wayne had any I'm sure he would have piped in already.

I am going to start a post about a group buy, see what interest there is, then one of the guys will give me a quote, shipping included. I don't think i am stepping on toes here, and if it is too expensive... I won't persue it any further.

AU Wreciking Yards

I ordered my HZ starter and shut off solenoid from 4x4parts.co,.au/
They were excellent. Ordered via internet, verified via phone, received everything about 2 weeks later. The US dollar was better then, so cost was acceptable. The shipping was almost as much as the items - that concerned me a little, but when I inquired they said they only use this one shipper - because they do not have problems - that stopped me right there, no more concerns and I would happily order from them again. The starter had worn out bushings - but what do you want for used?

Not available used here and some of the parts are delisted so if you get a set and need something to make them work you will likely be SOL.

I was surprised to read you ordered in the starter, thought you might go my route and use the Supra motor and mag switch, bolt it up to the 1HZ mount. 75.00 dollars later, in with new brushes while apart and like new starter.

This is good to know, If I ever need parts that quick.

Two weeks, it must of come air?

Rob

Do you think the Supra starter motor will keep working?
Others who have tried the F landcruiser starter on a 2H diesel reckon it craps out.
The diesel starter on a 1HZ has about 4x the output of the 3F starter.
I suppose that compensates for the diesel having 4x more compression at cranking speed.
