Yeah I actually got the "function" part of the clutch spork... it was the timing and chosen venue to post the picture that I was kind of unsure of. I too have some pretty red neck repairs under my belt. Mostly they utilize bailing wire combined with some of the surrounding vegetation.

ingenious...
although i have yet to see a cruiser fork wear that bad, pretty smart bush repair.

<of course you could have driven home not using the clutch, more challenging for sure>

That's a riot, I had my clutch fork wear right through and my slave cylinder poked through, so I took a Presta valve adapter from my bicycle tire stem and snugged it in the hole, fit perfectly and lasted for years until i came across a doner clutch fork.

The things you do on the trail to get you home.

Dougal, awesome repair, but did you re-enforce the welds?

Awesome repair, and I'm sure no one's flatware is safe anymore. Welds and the areas around them fail with some regularity, so did you use any metal backing to ensure your repair stays solid?

I added some reinforcement around the back side which you cannot see in the photo. As of last year when I swapped the gearbox over the repaired fork was still working well. It had done around 40,000km since the repair.

Enough zip-ties can fix almost anything.

It's amazing that I have thousands of dollars wrapped up in tools, yet a 3 cent zip-tie can often surpass all of them in utility.

Best,

Flip original 3B exhaust manifold for turbo

i am planning to flip a 3B manifold to install a turbo, questions are as follow

1) I have a lebaron Chrysler 2.2 gas turbo. Is this turbo compariable since it has a carbon seal?

2) Do i have to enlarge the exhaust manifold to match the exhaust port on the head?

3) I have a vacuum pump attached to the alternator. a) Currently the engine supplies oil to the vacuum pump and returned the oil back to the filter housing.. do i run a tee on both of the feeder and scanvange lines , so the oil shares with the vacuum pump and turbo?
b)If so, then i am afraid the hot returned oil from the turbo might flush the vaccum pump, will it happen since the turbo sits higher then the vaccum
c) Finally, the heat from the turbo might radiated to the alternator,

4) Anyone please post some pictures of the flip 3b manifold turbo set up.

Thank you

I think that turbo has been used successfully by a few Mud members.

You can pull the oil from the alternator and I would drop the oil pan and weld in a return line.

If you search a bit more you will see photos and well written articles on the turbo installations.

Good luck,.

Rob

i would not pull oil fromt he vacumm pump. a wasted vacumm pump is over $1500 to replace, run a 't' from the oil pressure guage and as Robbie suggests, drop the pan BUT make sure the return line is above the oil level...any restriction and you will have oil back up to the turbo... not good.

I agree the seperate oil system is over kill and more parts to break, I like the AXT setup running off of the sending unit and return back to the oil filter inlet. I also run an oil cooler on my BJ42 and it helps keep things cool

G'day,

Michael
could you pleas show off a picture of this setup
thanx

aston, take your oil pressure off the oil passage along the block. behind the alternator is a plug in the block. It has good pressure at this point. A 1/8 BSP to 1/4 JIC fitting is needed. But it's like a buck or two and no tee's are needed.
Oil return must be double the size of the pressure line. half inch(.500) is needed. Return to the pan only. It is not a pressure return, more of a drain. So keep it unrestricted, no 90 degree angles. Max 45.

I pulled my pan and welded a fitting on. Make sure before you weld where you want to put it. Too low its in the oil and won't drain. Also you don't want to be behind the filter. Also ensure your pan isn't too rusty prior to pulling it off and discovering it. Might be worth while to source a pan prior if this is the case.

looking at this picture of the oil return setup and, is that a double banjo fitting? ??made from a bolt?? thanx

You can see the straight in path that #2 port gives the turbo a direct blast and how #3 port is directed to the flow path as is the other 2 ports.
