Looking for LHD HZJ80 parts....

Hey there guys,

I'm just over from the gasser side and am envious of you diesel guys 80's. From what I understand, left hand drive HZJ/HDJ80's, 81's were imported into Germany, France & Checkoslovakia.

Is this correct? Where else were they?

Is there a place where I can order miscelaneous parts from?

I am in the southeastern US and am looking for LHD turbo diesel motors/ parts 5 speed for a conversion as well as optional and unique parts. Specifically, power folding mirrors.

Thanks

if you get an answer... let me know. Most folks use a RHD vehicle to swap the diesel from, as they are plentiful from Japan. The problems occur with: clutch pedal, some wiring, and sometimes air-con parts. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to do.

I have a gasser 80 converted to 1HDFT using parts from Japan and England.

But, I do need to find some LHD 70 series parts... specifically HZJ79 air conditioning box.

They also were sold in Central America and South America. Why don't you ask Cruiser_guy or Tapage. They are both in Central America.

They are everywhere, south of Asia, Africa, Central / South America, they are referenced as "General" (GEN) on EPC, I don't know US, but here in the Toyo dealer, I just give them part number when ordering, they don't care about LHD or RHD~~

1HD-T and manual gearbox is rare to export from Japan, as I hear from a used engine resaler, he state that China (yap, also got HDJ80 imported) is absorbing most of those used 1HD-T etc... hope this help!

My HZJ80 came from Belgium (via the UK!)

My 92 HZJ80 (poverty pack) was originally sold and licenced in Belgium, then sold to someone in the UK who owned it a few years, sold it to a canadian serviceman who brought it back with him, and I bought it from him. Very happy with it. 1HZ, 5 speed, few frills, barn doors in the back. Have taken the back seat out and it's been doing yoeman's duty hauling stuff to and from a getaway country place I recently bought. SO: I would think that if you are looking for one, there are probably some out on the european continent.

Parts? I have obtained Toyota oil filters from a Toyota dealer in Florida (I live in Canada). There's a couple of places in Canada that can get the parts for them. And the local Toyota dealer has a fair number of chassis parts which are common with the N-A 80 series.

I attach a few pics for your interest.
Cheers.

SC-FZ80,

Conversion parts are 95% LHD/RHD compatible, enough to source the Aussie or JDM RHD 1/2 cuts offered by some MUD vendors on the west coast. I have personal experience using Spector Off Road, and recommend them.

Don't know of anyway to get around having freighting costs. You simply live where these trucks don't exist.

As for trick options, goodies and gadgets, I guess the best thing to do is to mine the classifieds, and/or make friends here on MUD who live in the places where these trucks exist. It's all about networking, and MUD is an excellent forum to network on.

Thanks guys for all of your comments. I am moving back to San Diego soon, so I'll be closer to some of the parts vendors for my intended diesel conversion. I still have alot of research to do in order to figure out what engine is the best for me but a 5 speed manual is definetly a must. I will have to spend more time on this side of the forum in the future in order to find what I am looking for.

As for the other goodies, I really like the unique options that came on these in non-US markets. I recently bought the JDM side markers, tool tray, headlight washers and power mirrors. I also am in the process of installing an OEM subtank & overhead console from Australia. The mirrors though are for a RHD and the mount angles are wrong for a LHD. All of the other mirror parts are interchangeable though. Do you guys know if there were any deluxe LHD versions of the 80? I am assuming that these were only on the primo package equiped models.
