Looking for Towing specs for HDJ80L

Hello everyone,

I am looking for the towing specs for an HJD80L I have all the US specs (got them off the boiler plate literature) but I am trying to figure out the towing capacity of 80 series with 1HD-FT I assume it is the same or greater but really need to confirm. If anyone has a clue are can point me in the right direction, It is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

First off, congrats on the purchase, Michael. A truly unique vehicle you'd be hard pressed to find an equal in this country. Even the HDJ81's that are trickling into Canada don't even have the 24 valve turbo diesel.

My 1995 British sales brochure states the towing capacity for the 80 (regardless of powerplant) is 7715 lb with trailer brakes. Does this capacity depend on the country where it is certified, that is the question.

The towing capaciity has well been discused in 80 tech on many occasions.
In the UK the legal maxim for a breaked trailer is 3500 KG and unbreaked trailor is 750Kg and this is what is recomended by Toyota. It realy seems to depend on what the regulations are in the country or perhaps state that you are in. I believe that the same towing weight that I quoted are the same for the rest of the EEC countries. The 1HD-FT is a very nice engine and as I hae said on a previous post tend to be set up very week for emissions and this is easily addressed o give even better response.
