Removing 3B injectors?

The manual says to use SST to remove the four nozzles...why not just a deep socket? Is it OK to do this?
Taking my injectors into Action Fuel Injection in Nanaimo ASAP, getting them serviced to try and improve my dismal fuel economy.

I used a socket to remove the Nozzle assembly. I took them to a good diesel shop here to check them out. They said the injectors definatly needed a rebuild and were not ionizing the fuel. $250 for reman or $125ea new. I told them to reman mine.... HTH

Yeah, it's a 27mm deep socket and a long bar to overcome the factory thread lock. I'm taking them in tommorrow. I'm hoping to go re-man as well, $$ is tight.

Well I saw the price for the nozzles, but I would still have to bring them in to have them assembled. The re-man injectors are fairly pricey at $79 ea. I suppose I'll have to wait and see whether this is a good idea or not.

Moose,

Is $79/ea. the quote from the fuel injection shop in Naniamo? If so, they are way cheaper on the mainland. You could courier them and still be ahead.

On the tools needed, a 27mm deep socket and a flare nut wrench, (17mm I think) to avoid rounding off the nuts for the injection pipes. Be careful not to torque the overflow pipe or the injection pipes.

Loyd will charge you about the same or a bit more once done, you only other option is to have them sent over to Vancouver Jims Fuel Injection, if memorey serves for around 50.00 a pop.

I actually purchased the nozzles and rebuilt them myself, I do not have a injector tester, put the original shims back in and hoped for the best.

Drop by if your in town, never seen a right hand drive 70 series.

Rob

$30 more each than Vancouver? They come back gold plated?...bidonista!! ...che gatzo dovere!!
Ah shit, who knows...I have no quote yet from Action, maybe it won't be so bad. The fuel mileage I'm getting it doesn't matter...they have to be fixed.

No it will cost you that much, I have had many several rebuilt through Lloyd.

There is another company in Campbell River, can`t remember the name off the top of my head.

Stay away from a small company in Ladysmith, called something like Mid Island Turbo, 105.00$ each.

If I can go from 17mpg to 25mpg...it'd be worth every penny. BTW, can I purge the fuel system quickly by just turning the engine over and cracking the nuts on the injectors or do I actually have to pump the filter?
