BJ70 idle speed issues...desperate

'85 BJ70. The idle speed is wildly out of control. I know this can be complicated, but where I live (Vancouver, BC), prices to fix this sort of thing are also wildly out of control, and I'm poor.

First it was just hovering at 1600 rpm's, then it crept passed 2200, and now it's well passed 3k and I can't drive it -- getting a bad smell.

I need a lot of help to fix this. I know little about the fuel aspects of my cruiser, but I'v got a little time in the next couple of days.

Can anyone help????

Sounds like your injector pump diaphragm is gone. Cheap part, PITA to do.

great! So...how do I do that? Get the part at NAPA? Get a chilton's or something? or is it easy enough to explain how to fix on this thread?

You could go to the DTLC archives at http://www.birfield.com, and do a search. I know people in the past have posted how to do it. PITA factor is high.

Alternatively, you could try Rob Millson in Richmond. He is not wildly out of control and is a great Cruiserhead. LCI Landcruiser Industries Rob Millson 604.270.3540 email:dr.rob@telus.net

Definitely get the real Toyota factory repair manuals for your rig. I think Greg knows where they can be found?

I'd take it to Rob too, but I am notoriously lazy when it comes to PITA stuff - and most other stuff ;-)
