course or fine spline 4.11's
I am getting 4.11's from a guy, he has both course and fine spline, they are used third members.
What is better? He said course are just fine. Can I just buy two rear third members? thanks, john __________________ 81 BJ60 turbo, intercooler, snorkel, etc. |

i would suggest buying 2 FRONT members since they see much less wear.
course or fine is fine and i have the part number to adapt the course shaft to a fine bolt pattern so you can use the larger fine spline u joint. cheers __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! coarse spline center units us the smaller u joint in the driveshaft so to adapt to the larger ujoint you need to use the larger bolt pattern companion flange...

Ok so I am still a bit confused.
So you are saying that the larger u joint is better right? And that if I wanted to go that route I could get a course spline flange with larger bolt pattern to mate to the larger u joint ? Or I could just leave thing's the way they are right? thanks for explaining, john __________________ 81 BJ60 turbo, intercooler, snorkel, etc. |

definatly get the fine spline.. a tad stronger from what I hear although I've never busted a pinion. Then you can swap the flanges easily.

it comes down to money and availablility.
the coarse is a fine diff, i have snapped a few off in the last 24 years but this is usually due to abuse and neglect. the fine spline is stronger and will adapt easier. i have at least 14 sets of fine and coarse spline center units here and i wouldn't hesitate to use either in my own trucks... __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! If you don't do much offroading you are safe right with the course right.

you are "safe" with either. just make sure it is set up right. buy FRONT diffs when ever yo can since they see minimal usage. check the back lash when buying, check pinion play, "look" for signs of abuse. check that it turns easily.

if they are close to home so no shipping then not bad. check them out carefully before putting the money down.
remember with the coarse spline you will need the adapter which is about $200 each from Toyota... __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! yoke flange
We (Randy's Ring & Pinion) have many different yoke flanges available, coarse or fine. THey are round, so if there isn't the bolt pattern you need then you can just drill the holes. It is ok to do this, as the pilot keeps it centered. Most are between $40-50

Sounds a but high for Course diffs IMHO, we sell them for ~$150. Also, we can get you any pinion flange you desire... see here:
http://www.cruiseroutfitters.com/loc...n_flanges.html You can adapt just about any pinion flange to any Cruier driveline this way. __________________ Kurt Williams ***Cruiser Outfitters*** - YOUR LC PARTS SOURCE!!!
