It's no scam, I know the owner (and he is on this board - drexx). It's sweet HDJ80, I've driven it too. I just don't have $35K lying around

It has been registered in a few states without much hassle. This in one of those that passed through the loopholes

Drexx is legit. I know him personally and have seen the rig myself -- it's a very sweet rig.

My understanding is that it was a stock Gasser 80 series, and he brought in the 1HD-T from the Philipines, and had it installed in the US.

My wife (and that powerful voice of reason) says that it doesn't make financial sense to keep an HDJ-80 in the USA while we live here in the Philippines. And every molecule in my brain agrees with her --but the rest of me doesn't. And so is my son against the sale, saying that he'll be back to study in California anyway.

So, to keep her happy, I've put up a website that says I'm selling it. To answer her questions every now and then as to whether I've sold it & if I'm *really* doing anything about it (she's becoming suspicious everyday --she knows me too darn well), I give her a few names from people who says they're interested, then report back to her saying I've got good leads... but they somehow peter out for some unknown reason

If somebody does buy it for the amount I'm asking, I wouldn't turn it down. I'll be sad of course, like having a bright-and-glorious-son-going-away-to-get-married kind of sad, but I'll instantly convert that sadness to happiness because I'll be using 100% of the money to setup a non-profit Linux school for poor kids here in the Philippines.

Hey Drexx,

You can give your wife my name as a promising lead (and, gone sour later) just to keep your marriage together, for a little while longer at least.

Happy Holidays!

Hey Drexx, the most awesome thing that you could do for all of us (if your conscience allows) would be to tell us HOW the bloody thing got into the US in the first place?!?!?

Im here to tell you that if I had 35 grand available I'd buy her from you YESTERDAY!

Thanks,

TB

I have nothing to hide I bought the HDJ-80 from this entrepreneur in CO who sold the HDJ-80 to finance his venture into getting turbo-intercoolers for the 2UZ-FE (which I'm particularly interested in as a customer) in the USA. He in turn, bought it from a Czech in NM who got it from his homeland who later grew tired of it. In summary, I don't know the fine details on how it was first imported --what matters to me is that I got it registered in CA DMV, and with the blessings of the California Highway Patrol and fully-insured with AAA. VIN even shows up in Carfax...

[OT] Mot, thanks for lending me your name to tell my wife. If you can just PM me your real name and location, I can more easily report back to her with a straight face.

Thank you.

Damn, if it was done once it can be done again!!!!

If I win the lottery in the next few days I'll be calling you and offering you 40 grand for it!

No worries dude. I think you did the right thing in alerting the 'Cruiserworld about what you though was another possible scam I would have done the same.

I guess I just am not that famous yet

Something to note about getting foreign vehicles into the US.

I've been told in the past -- and it seems to be true based on what I've seen people do is this --

If you live outside the US and return to the US, you can bring 1 personal vehicle back with you. I don't know how long you have to live outside the country to be eligible; i.e. I don't think you can vacation for a month then bring back an 80.

I have a number of friends who have brought personal vehicles into the US from other countries without problems. This may be dependent on safety devices (DOT stuff, airbags, etc.).

Tying this into Drexx's explanation of the history of his rig, the Czech guy most likely brought his personal vehicle to the US.

the guy(owns a cop supply shop) I get my gun goodies from bought a used Mercedes from the local Lexus dealer, it was 80K and VERY special and VERY fast. Well it turns out it was a non US gray market car, brought in the US by a diplomat, then sold to a guy in Florida that buys stuff like this(knowing its not suppose to stay in the US) then sold to ,then Lexus sold it as being brought thru a US RI and it was up to snuff.........well it wasn't.

Now the governement wants it GONE from the US. Also seems this LExus dealer knew it was not suppose to be here but sold it anyway and has pulled this before. Lexus dealer will be paying(10K+) for the work to be done to make it US legal......if not they are libel for 3x the damage, which would be 80K x3........

diplomatts can bring in whatever they want but must take it home with them. Forigners can bring it non US cars for a certain period of time.......but it must go home with them.

When I lived in Germany, some of the other U.S. citizens there would pick up some very nice Beemers at awesome prices and wanted to bring them home. There were plenty of NHTSA and EPA items that had to be added that it didn't make it cost effective.

I remember a friend of mine picked up a VW Bug and besides the glass having to be replaced, there was a safety bar or some safety mechanism missing in the front doors that stopped him from bringing it home.

Recently when I looked into importing from Canada, I made a call to a government office in D.C. that handled NAFTA exemptions. The officer there mentioned two stories. The first was a Canadian that came to the U.S. to work and brought her Pontiac with her. When she decided to stay and naturalize, she was unable to register her car because the Canadian Daytime Running Lights were way to bright and exceeded NHTSA standards. She had to pay to have it sent back north.

The other story was about eBay and the hassles that Customs is having dealing with how easy it has become to make purchases online. This involved a V-12 Mercedes S class that someone had bought online, only to find it stopped at the port. And later had to pay for it to be shipped by overseas.

i have heard of guys taking illegal diesels into the states and having to cross back over the Canadian border to get it properly imported...

this is the car by freind is having problems with a Mecedes V12 german spec.......he didn't buy on-line however, but from the local Lexus dealer.....so the dealer is on the hook in the end.

the daytime running lights shouldn't have been an issue, just unp
