Keep in mind that in my photos I don't have the superglow bar in place. I think this jumper piece would go under the top rubber isolation mounting pad on the superglow bus bar. Otherwise it would be a short to ground.
It should be easy to reproduce with some 8 gauge or 6 gauge stranded wire. It's got to be hefty wire since this thing looks like it's designed to carry a lot of current. |

Problem Solved
Well its marvelous what a difference 20/20 hindsight makes. It is now ridiculously obvious that Rufs' solution was the right one. I manufactured the correct link, stuck the multimeter between the glow plugs and ground and got my wife to turn the key on and..............7.5v on the glow plugs while glowing for 3 secs.................... tried to start...... 2nd time over compression and brrrm............ kept watching the meter, voltaged dropped to 4v for 40 secs, then 0v - glow plugs off.
Repeated test with same results. My sincere thanks to Rufus, Tom and everyone else who went to so much trouble to help me with this. Regards Dave Picture of correct setup below [IMG] [/IMG]

One last thing, Rufus, you said it looks like it's designed to carry a lot of current - in the manual I think it says 80 to 90 amps, so you cant use a piece of ordinary flex for this link (mine is actually the metal plate that covers the expansion card slots in a PC case).

I guess those must be 6V plugs that you're running with your superglow. Most of the people on MUD owning 12V BJ42s (where I can recall them mentioning it) don't have the superglow feature and run 8.5V plugs with a few even running 10.5V plugs. (I haven't seen any written justification - in the EPC for instance - for running 10.5V plugs in a manual-glow BJ42 but that is not to say that these people are wrong - I'm still learning.) Quote:

just adding my 2c.
i have had this problem when i have knocked out the crimped+fusible links for the glow circuit.. if i glow for the usual time and it doesnt start after being under the hood then it's the first thing to check.. i have an 1984 bj42 and have recently replaced the glow plugs this winter, not sure with what voltage. was great once they had been swapped over. __________________ '84 BJ42 with all the fruit - fun to drive 7 days a week! 1GB Free Image hosting @ PHAT42.COM! I agree, and photos save a lot of typing! I am not sure about the blow by from the dipstick, there is probably some deisel on it, since I cracked the injector nuts to make sure I didn't have air in the lines before I started on the glow plugs, but I will have to test the compression now that you've mentioned it Joe.
Tom I think mine was made for the Australian market. It has its dickie seat and a green digital clock. I am thinking of adding a cd player! I have added pictures of the compliance plates etc below, as well as a pic of the car as it sits under the carport. I am onto fixing the rust now. BrisVegan, I didnt think you needed glow pugs in Qld. You dont know what winter is minus 5 here the other morning.Pics follow: [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]
