Transmission Service on HDJ81

Hi All,
I would like to change the transmission oil in my 1990 HDJ81. It has A442F transmission in it. Is it just a simple drain-and-refill job or should I worry about anything else?
FSM says, drain from the drain plug then pour through the filler neck. Is that all??

I am thinking of using Amsoil Synthetic Transmission oil. Opinions??

Cheers,
Ahmed

I have a 1991, what you'll find is that draining the pan will only remove about 4-6 liters of oil at a time and our trannies have a capacity of roughly 15 liters. So if you want to go synthetic you should do it in one shot with a tranny flush/transfusion machine, it is pressurized and goes through the whole tranny including torque converter, valve body and pressure lines. Be prepared to buy 20 liters if you're going this way plus cost of service from shop. What im doing is using ac delco dexron vi (made by petro-canada) and changing fluid one pan drain at a time, usually when i change my oil. This gradually changes fluid from old to new. If you look in the 80's forum, it describes this technique.

X2, did the flush as posted on the 80's forum and it worked like a charm, just as they said it would. I went with the cheap walmart 5 gal pail (Will switch synthetic when I have the money, I just wanted it changed) and cycled it untill all the dark oil was gone. Don't foget to put the truck into "L" for a bit to cycle the oil that way too.
