Positioning my kkk 26
I have a kkk26 from an Audi 5000 that I am gathering parts for an intsall on my '84 BJ60.
Is it possible to rotate the turbine and compressor without taking the turbo apart? I have loosened all the nuts that hold the 2 sections together hoping just rotate the 2 housings so the exhaust in would be 90* to the compressed air out? I wanted to see if anyone had done this before I went any further. Thanks, Joe |

I suppose you might be able to rotate the compressor housing with some force... erm maybe alot of force, but the turbine section you will most definitely have to separate. I would recommend separating the compressor housing. It has always come off easily with some gentle wacks without heat. I usually separate my turbine housings by evenly heating the scroll with a torch and giving it several good wacks with a rubber or wood mallet. It doesnt need to be glowing or anything like that. It goes without saying that the band that clamps the turbine to the center section needs to be removed. When you rotate them all, the center section oil inlet needs to be very near vertical to flow properly. Now when I say wacks it is a very subjective estimate of force. I pay 50$ for my turbos. You figure it out

topage: exactly like that on just not as clean (yet) and no wastegate.
Wayne: I'll go see Alamo next week and get their input including if I need a rebuild (I don't think so). BTW I'm driving 84 green. And the unit has recieved a few wacks to see if it would move but Ill wait 'till I talk to Alamo before I get serious. Thanks for the feedback. |
