Battery
Hi
BJ73 with 24 Volt system would not start in the weekend. I towed it to start and was ok for the rest of the Weekeend. I took it to the Battery place on Monday and they replaced 1 battery saying it was stuffed. I had installed 2 new 13 plate batterys 15 months ago. My question is should I go and buy a matching battery or just live with what I have? I do us the truck in a 4X4 club and we have a alpine trip this weekend and I will be camping in the snow.

Search 24v. tons of info.
But: 1) You need to replace both... after you check for any 12v taps off of the low side battery. Any 12V taps will burn one battery and undercharge the second. Bad news. 2) You need to buy both because a clean system (no taps) will still do the above if the batteries are different. Best methodology is to replace both with the same brand and type of battery. Stick to the same manufactureing month if you can. Yes they can be that finicky. Good luck. Kraig __________________ 1981 JDM BJ44 RHD - Going under the knife soon! |

Also rotating the batteries every now and then does not hurt.

When you get the new (second one) battery, get the other new one out of the rig as well. Connect them in parallel !!!!!!! (pluspost to pluspost - minuspost to minuspost) AND immediately charge them with a good 12V battery-charger. If it's an automatic charger, wait until the charging process stops. If it's not an automatic charger, wait untill the current has dropped to say 1 Amp or so. Only by doing so, you will have two batteries that are in the same charging condition and will have the most out of them. As said by others: search the forum. Tons of info. And DO NOT connect 12V equipment to ONE of the batteries even if the needed power is minute. Or has this been said before ? ![]() ![]() ![]() Really don't do that!!!!![]()

Hi
Thanks for the Advice. I have spend $200 on the second battery. I only take 24 volts off both batterys. I do have a couple of 24 to 12 volt converts. When connecting up the new battery I did hear the Glow plug relay click and there was a small spark. Is this normal? Thanks |

Where was the spark? Regardless ,sparks are bad news unless you have spark plugs
