BJ60 exhaust questions - after turbo install

Again, I'm getting all my parts ready for my turbo install and I'm just working on the exhaust.

I'm going with 2.5" SS and I've sourced elbows and tube and have a friend who will weld it all up for me. All components will be Stainless Steel

So going from the turbo exhaust flange

90* 2.5 SS elbow
4" section of 2.5" tube
2.5" SS braided flex pipe
X" section of 2.5" tube
90* elbow turns toward the frame
X" section of tube
2-90* elbows turned to get over the frame and heading toward the rear tire
X" section of 2.5" tube
Magnaflow SS 4" dia muffler x 20" total length
x" section of 2.5" tube
90* elbow turns out to the world

I'll make some flanges to make it all bolt together in 3 sections for ease of installation and replacement in the future.

So, I'm sort of wondering what the X"'s of tube all add up to. After writting it all out it sure doesn't seem like much, maybe 5-6'

Anyone have a length of tube from the manifold to the rear tire?

I'll of course get out there with the tape but I thought I'd ask, also thought I'd toss out the parts so maybe someone else would benefit.

Pictures to come in a couple of weeks, turbo and exhaust.

about 7" feet should be lots, by the way how much does this cost, there may be others interested in this later if he's willing to produce more.

Rod I think stainless is a great way to go for sure. I just cant seem to justify using the little stainless I have for for exhaust. Rather, I use regular steel and just keep it painted with high heat paint. When you/ we tear apart your old exhaust you will notice there is alot of soot coating the entire inside of the tubing, and also on your hands, your face, my hands, my face, etc... The stuff coats on pretty thick. So much so that I cant recall the last diesel I have owned where the exhaust rotted from the inside out. My Mazda rotted from the inside like crazy, but my cruisers usually only rust on the outside. That being said, I am a little jealous

G, we'll get you the same thing when you swap the 3B into your FJ. No problem. I agree no diesel exhaust system should rot from the inside out, it's just the outside that I'm wanting to make sure I don't need to worry about for the next 15-20 years . My current exhaust system is really rusting out bad, it`s pieced together with odd size pipes and I had a quote from a muffler shop (Budget, ya right) for the entire system from the manifold to tail pipe....... it was $1,100 plus tax and that was for your typical 2 inch system in what ever steel they use for exhaust systems.

Cody, I just went to a local steel shop that speciallizes in Stainless fabrication for the tube and the elbows.

with 7' (which is what I was thinking too) the tube and the elbows will cost me $170 after taxes, The muffler and the flex pipe I'm getting from Summit racing for $107 (free shipping). Gauges were also from Summit and they cost me $180+/-

So my out of pocket expenses so for for the turbo and the exhaust and gauges (I haven't purchased any of the turbo or intake air fittings and parts yet) is $540. I'm guessing the rest of the parts will cost me another $200 (at the most I hope). Fabrication is the killer in the cost to do this sort of stuff.

The fabrication is the only thing that I'm not having to pay for (well sort of). I'm trading the fabrication for some work I'm doing for my friend. He's making my manifold and all the plates for mating the turbo to the manifold and the turbo to the exhaust as well as flanges to make the exhaust into 3 pieces.

It's all who you know they say, and I'm fortunate enough to know a buch of skilled people in a lot of different fields. G, when are you siding the shop or doing the roof on your house? You know I'll come on over and swing a hammer for ya right

I`ll see after this is all done if my friend is interested in setting up to make some exhaust systems. Once we get this one done, he`ll have a better idea of the time required for fabrication and can price the system accordingly, if he`s interested that is. I`ll also check with the SS shop, they may be interested in setting up to do a run of 10 or more exhaust systems based on mine.

Rod, save a few $$ and skip the muffler too. I've been running at 2 1/2" pipe with my turbo (no muffler) for over 5 years and that includes trips through Aircare. NO ONE has ever asked about the muffler.

If you skip the muffler you also keep the pipe hotter all the way back and have less hot and cold areas that encourage rust. My exhaust still looks good after 5 years and it's stock pipe (not stainless).
