Doable 100% .. but the 7.3 from ford it's a huge heavy engine .. you really gotta need beef up your front suspension .. the 502 EFI sound much more simple to me .. even if I'm not a gasser fan ..
But ti all depends on your target .. and your wallet. |

Cool idea!
Is the 7.3 an old-school iron push-rod engine? Or is it maybe lighter? H engines are pretty heavy too. You should look for some specs..

you would probally want to swap the engine tranny t-case and axles in, especially if you happen to have a wrecked one. it sounds like more work but probally easier in the long run, also you may want to beef up the frame due to the extra weight and torque.
You should definately do this and post lost of pictures! __________________ 83BJ60,Merkur turbo+intercooled,SOA,aussie locker Custom bumpers,,4.88's, longs and poly rears.RDB's +4runner calipers, parabolics in front, 39.5 IROK's on DC-1's 92FJ80 stock with the damage multiplied. 350 now in, and getting the bugs out. |

anything is doable...if you have time and money.
I however am a fan of stock...or...toyota transplants...its more desirable to get a toyota with a toyota engine in it....if you ever resell... why would you even want to go from an H to a ford? dude,
i have been eyeballing the 7.3 for a while. the one in my van is kicking in power and fuel economy but, as said earlier, HUGE and HEAVY... it will take some work to get it to work and i can picture that rear diff grenading in short order.... if you do go this route please do a thread with pics. i will fly in for a test drive!! __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! x2 A beefed up Toyota diesel is much nicer and easier to work on. I hate to think what a 7,3 would sound like in a 47 engine bay without the sound deadening of a big pick up truck

Thanks!!
I really like the 7.3 , it was quite and fuel efficient in an 3 1/2 ton vehicle. 14-22 MPG depending on how driven. I now have the 6.0 , quieter but not nearly as good on power or Fuel economy 12-16 MPG .
Good points about weight though?? That would be heavy and working on it would be tough but , the 7.3 NEVER tears up!! Just put the filters in good reach and the rest will take care of itself. The 502 and 4L80E would be nice for moving fast , would be like MARTA on steriods!! LFAR!! |

Got a 7.3 in my E350 van. Works great, especially when towing a heavy load. If you baby it you can get decent mileage. Last trip I took in the van, I averaged arourd 50 mph and got 20.6 mpg, and that is with a tall van with the Quigley 4x4 conversion.
They are noisy. You have to shut the engine down when you try to place an order at a drive-thru fast food. I have a spare 7.3 powerstroke that I weighed. It came in at a tad over 1,200 lbs. __________________ Stock FJ62 SOA Samurai Tintop Ford E-350 4x4 Diesel M-29 Weasel |

Hmm. I think a guy here weighed a H2 with the gearbox and split-case attached. It was about 500 kg. If the 7,3 is 600 kg's without the transmission you should just forget about it. __________________ HJ60..OSLO

1,200 Pounds??
WOW!!
1,200lbs.thats a load of weight!! I haven't checked the weight yet if the motor is 1,200 then with the tranny it would be very unpractical for sure. Thats almost twice as much as My Harley!! Better stick with 502 with aluminum heads LOL. The Diesel would definetly lower the center of gravity though. |

a 2F/2H weighs roughly 800 lbs so the extra 400 lbs is about the weight of a custom bumper and warn upright and a jerry can of fuel...
as suggested, add a leaf to the front pack and you are golden. but the height, length and width of that engine is also HUGE so check where the oil pan will sit, how much hood clearence there will be and add also the tranny length with t/case. it will be LOTS of work but the results will be impressive. i have to agree with the fuel reports, i towed 8 ton behind my E350 across Canada and down through the states. average fuel milage was 11.7 mpg (imperial) at 55 mph (2WD van). they are great engiens as long as the electrics don't screw up. last week the fuel control relay died and the repair bill was $2200... OUCH! __________________ pulling this info out of my ass so take it with a pound of salt "People are poor because they don't spend money wisely, tough sh!t !!! I would sell that monster, and get something smaller.. you really don't need 300 hp and what, 1000nm of torque? In a HJ47!
You'll end up changing avery part of your vehicle to match the power What engine is in your truck now? H? 2H? 1hdT? __________________ HJ60..OSLO

Thanks Crusher,
Didn't know that the original engine weighed that much , 800 lbs. is quite a bit It still has the original motor that came in it ,but I didn't know it weighed that much? I guess that a load of stuff would have to be changedthough but , I read of a Guy in Australia that has done a Duramax conversion and He was VERY pleased with the results. Must be sweet withnthat 5 speed Allison tranny and Duramax. Reports 22 MPG!! Not bad. Thanks to ALL for answering My thread and for taking time to share Your thoughts!! |

Hello cody c ,
I will post pic's and info if I do the swap. I will be sure to keep You updated , probably drive it for a while do some research and then takle it. It is ALWAYS easier for Me to decide if I can find someone who has already done it to see what is involved.I searched but , all I found was a Duramax conversion so far. Thanks for The reply!! |
