The ex. pipes are 3" or 73mm all the way. The muffler is a short straight-through type..+ a flexible part.. It's all from a shop called "biltema" wich is the cheapest place to buy tools and parts up here..
I spendt about 1200kr or 250 usd. on all the exhaust-parts It will be very exciting to fire it up and hear the sound..

Install is almost finished...
But it's not working proparly.. boost is only 0,25kg/cm2 (3,5psi) It seems like the fuel is "held back" or sucked through a very thin straw as soon as the boost starts to come.. I have tried adjusting the stop on the edic-arm for more fuel and it seemed to work below 1500rpm... over that and the engine feels strangled more than forcefed over 2000 rpm it's actually a lot slower than before...despite the 3,5 psi..Something is not right.. __________________ HJ60..OSLO

i was going to say that your turbo set-up is the same as mine...and looking at it there is nothing supporting the weight of the turbo and when off road it will bounce alot and crack the manifold then had anuther look at it and the bracket holding your wastegate acsuwaiter (spelling) looks like it is supporting the turbo.

Yeah.. and if you look real closely there is also a pretty beefy bracket at the very front, bolted to where the lift-hook used to sit.. here is another picture.

The intercooler? I think it's 70x250x450mm.. the holes are 55mm inside.
It's probably way bigger than it needs to be. I haven't really driven the engine hard and long yet but after my 25 min test-trip earlier it was as cold as the bumper. maybe if i make some more boost it might be needed more ![]() The radiator is one with 4 cores.. temperature average is less than 10c over a year, so cooling shouldn't be an issue. I will make an aluminium heat-shield over the turbo and exhaust. __________________ HJ60..OSLO

Hi Doug
It's still at around ,5bar (7psi) or slightly above. I'll leave it at that for now.. Now it has to prove it is reliable and no leaks appearing and stuff like that.. Then in a while i might give it some more fuel...it's barely smoking at all now.. It's running pretty good now and it's really close to what i had wished for. So I'm very happy __________________ HJ60..OSLO

Thanx... hehe.. no I'm not really scared but it sure runs a lot stronger.. A little boost will appear from below 1500rpm with a heavy right foot. The "full" boost starts at 1800-1900. It really pulls hard from 2000... without the turbo i would have to let the revs climb slowly to accellerate... 50-80km/h took forever in 3. gear.. now it takes just a "woosh"
But there is also a noticeable difference in how it runs on low revs (before the boost kicks in) The 3" exhaust and the fuel adjustement must have made it stronger and more "alive" from idle. I'm very pleased.. Might give the fuel-screw one more turn since there is barely any smoke. __________________ HJ60..OSLO

Since I start adjunting my fuel screw ... there is about 4 complete turns on it, and I believe I will do a aditional half turn this weekend.

Oh! that much.. i have turned it two turns now.. and i suspect that someone has turned it in before thinking they would save diesel.. the seal looked twisted and came apart very easily.. Maybe I should go one more and get it up to 0,7kg's

mine has been turned 3/4 of a turn and was told that it is still running too lean...also put a boost gauge on it today and it maxs out at 8-9PSI and running at 80ks in 5th and just tap the accelarator and it gives 5PIS

Man, I love to make stuff
![]() Todays work an aluminium heatshield over the manifold to turbo-pipe..very pleased This one is just to keep some heat off the valvecover and the hood-liner. I might make one coming off the bodywork outside the turbo, to cover the turbo itself.. and I will have a small piece to shield the brake-mastercyl. from the downpipeAlso very pleased with the cars performance..I guess i have driven about 150km's since it was done, and everything seems ok! __________________ HJ60..OSLO

Very cool Martin! I bet you love your new truck (just like me)
So what is your Pyro gauge telling you about tuning the fuel/boost? Also, how do you adjust your wastegate arm? __________________ 83 BJ60, 347K km's, Mitsu TD04 Turbo, Custom 2.5" SS Exhaust, OME 2.5 lift, 4x7 Home built roof rack, 80 series rims 265 BFG AT ko's, frame swap coming soon... 04' VW Golf TDI, 172K km's |
