Mechanic in Northern New Mexico

Hey all, my initial experiences as a fresh Toyota Diesel owner are recounted here. Things are improving for me, but I'd really like to locate a diesel mechanic with a good reputation so that I can have someone with more know-how than me take a look at what I've got.

The board is very helpful, but there's nothing like some hands-on advice. I'm in Santa Fe, but could easily get to Albuquerque, Española or wherever needed for some time with a quality mechanic.

Any ideas? Rumors, even? Thanks, much.

If you have the time, this site has just about all the info you need to learn... Post some pics ask some questions, use some trial and error... see what happens... I personally don't like do it all mechnics working on my cruiser, and diesel mechnics usually hate foreign stuff, especially in my neck of the woods... Honestly the few things I have gotten done I was only happy with my fuel tank being re done... I had a few u joints changed, and the bolts weren't tight to the diff so I got some brutal vibration until I fixed it... and other than that I've only taken it in to fix wiring, both at toyota and a reputable local some both of which I was very disapointed with, paid out the a$$ and ended up having to fix there sketcy wiring...

I love finishing a job on the cruiser and thinking to myself how much it would have costed for a shop to do it!

Have you thought about the Toyota Industrial shop? I know there's one in Albuquerque, but I'd bet there'd be one in Santa Fe too. I don't know if the 13B was ever in a forklift, but there's a chance at least.

I'm by no means a diesel expert, but I've never needed a dedicated diesel mechanic either. I have done well enough so far with just this site, the FSM, and an occasional curse word.

I don't have a B series FSM (yet), but someday soon I will. I might suggest calling ToyoMasters in ABQ, or Karl Malone. I keep hearing good things about one of the K.M. guys (he's on mud occasionally, recklund IIRC), but for parts I'd go straight to CDan at American. I don't know if anyone has Toyota diesel experience, but those would at least be good guesses.

Dan

I know what you're saying Eric, just hoping there's someone decent around to keep me headed in the right direction. I'm comfortable with lots of stuff, and just a bit apprehensive about IP timing.

Thanks for the ideas, Dan. I'll look into that.

Any other ideas?

Just to add:

I've never even seen a 13B. But I've got the H, the 2LT-E, and Dad's got a 3B sitting in the shop. If you really get in a bind we can certainly take a look at it if you are in the Sandia Park area (and I'm home, which is hit or miss lately). Do you have a FSM for it yet?

Dan

Been out for a bit, but wanted to thank you guys for the last replies. Still trying to get everything smooth, but have been consumed with other projects for the time being.

Thanks...
