i am not positve but i dont think this tack will work unless you have a sensor in you bellhousing that i will plug into. i just put an autometer on my 3b part number 2888. look it up it reads off the alternator.easy install.

Won't work. The FJ tach takes a signal from the distributor or alt or something. The pre 90 Toyota diesels take a signal from a hall effect sensor that reads the teeth on the flywheel.
See if you even have a sensor in the bellhousing... being JDM it just might.
If not you will have to drill and tap.

The Autometer might be the simplest route as you won't get a 60 tach into your 40 cluster anyway.

This is the kind of Bellhousing required for a diesel tach....this one is for a 3B, and i am not sure if it will fit the 2B

This one is available

This is the tach sensor that goes with this housing also available

Shipping will be substancial

Best Regards

Ok,
let's take this one step further. Has anyone ever ADAPTED the hal-effect sensor to another tachometer?

I would like to do so because of space limitations on my dashboard...

Ive seen pics of diesel 45/47 series in AU that have a tach mounted to the right of the main cluster in the dash. Maybe you can find one of those? It would use the hall sensor mentioned.

You could also try the tiny tach that others have used. The small led readout would be good for your space limitation and it would be easy to get.

The problem with the TinyTach is calibration. You still need some sort of reference for true RPM's.

BTW: I thought TinyTach is LCD (ie:not LED).

You got me on the LCD screen...

I dont really follow on your statement re: calibration though. The tach runs off the pulse of the injection pump which happens only every 360 degrees for each cylinder. What needs to be calibrated?

Ditto on the calibration?? I just installed mine, there's no calibration!
As for the autometer tachs, part number 2888 where are you finding that Greekboy, I have searched there site with no luck and when I've checked with the auto stores they can only find 12 volt models, unless you can find a mechanical tach you will need a 12 volt supply for any of these tachs if they are connected to the alt or to a bellhousing sensor. The only simple and cheap solution for the 24 volt Landcruiser models I can find is the Tinytach.

Cheers

Why would you need to calibrate it? Its sensing fuel flowing through the injector line; that only happens once per two revolutions on every four stroke diesel.

Here's a Autometer from Summit racing Auto Meter
You can pull 12v from your converter to illuminate the light. Works off of the alternater, no calibration.

Nope, that type DOES need calibration (try the instruction manual http://www.autometer.com/productPDF/608.pdf). Its sensing alternator pulses, but various types of alternators have different numbers of poles, so you'll get varying numbers of pulses.

The tint tach, again, needs no calibration.

So has anyone here installed the Autometer tach? If so, how did you do the calibration? The instructions suggest using "test equipment found at many stations or dealers"...

If you're brave and work quickly you could use the rev limiter as your rpm reference.

You could also calculate your final drive ratio and calibrate in motion via the speedometer.

Or take the rear driveshaft out and use the speedometer as above, but while stationary.

More outlandish ideas:

Use a laptop with a microphone and spectral analyzer, there should be a good bit of power at 2*engine frequency (rps).
