Post 2H upgrade! Want a turbo...

I have an HJ60, with a 2H engine and H41 transmission.
I want to get a turbo for it... I have seen 2 kits.

1. ATX turbo
2. Turboglide

Both of them around the same price.

Have any one try this??? any recommendations... which kit is better.

thanks

In y humble opinion, it is cheaper and more effective to DIY

I am new here to Toyotas, but I have wrenched and fabricated for years w/turbo Saabs and GM's. All you need is a good used turbo, some mandrel bend, some oil and water lines, (or just go w/ an oil cooled unit), and some patience. Worst part on any car is making the exhaust to turbo flange.

DIY, maybe 400 clams. Kit maybe a lot more.

Kits save time and energy and are great in that regard, but if you really want to have fun, DIY, post pics, and bask in the glory.

Best,

T

@H Turboed

Did that. Worked great. Used the AXT kit, and it took the week end, Saturday and part of Sunday. The instructions were a little vague in some places, but there are a lot of infromation on line about what other guys have done to solve a particular problem. The conversation gave me aother gear, and that was after having moved the tire size to 16 inch and 285s. Get a piro and boost guages. No other way to set the turbo up without them.

Interesting prospect. Did you see this thread? http://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-...3b-diesel.html His experience is with the 3B, but the motors are breathern, thus comparable. Sounds like he prefers one of your candidates!

As for the above post recommending DIY, I am not so sure. From what I have been gathering, there's more to a turbo install than fitting the turbo: Turbo size, tailoring for optimization, boost levels, waste gate settings, exhaust gas temp monitoring, Injection pump tuning, exhaust alterations, ect, ect.

I think a kit will give greater control over the outcome, at least on the first attempt.

Best wishes with your turbo selection and installation! Keep us informed of your deceisions.

Thanks all for your opinions…
I going to do more research before making my final decision, it not so easy.. jajaja
And if I do it wrong I could get a bit expensive…

The easiest way to go .. with less hassle will be buy the ATX or Turbo Glide option..
It save me time.. but not money…

I also liked the way Tapage went..

Though decision to make… !!!

I reverse my opinion stated earlier. T is right: Building your own system rocks! I have spent the past hour reading Tapage's posts and googling "Turbos".

I am enjoying the education and an starting to realize there's a whole bunch of knowledge and experience out there!

I think there's a homebrew 2H install in my future!!!

's to Tobash, Tapage, and all of you out there who fabricate and install "power extraction devices"!!
