New BJ 44 - Looking for info on extra Tank

Hello all,

I am the proud new owner of a BJ 44 and was wondering how hard it would be to fit an extra fuel tank. I am looking for a 10 gallon option with the mind to eventually run a dual tank WVO system. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Smitty

aux. tank

I'm balls deep into the WVO conversion with my 76 40 series (converted to 1984 BJ drivetrain).
I used the 22gal aux. tank from Manafre. It's originally from Aus. and I've seen it imported by at least 1 other US company besides Manafre. One thing is for sure---they're instructions suck. It goes in above the rear axle very snug like. I had to cut away parts of my trailer hitch (for now) and remove a stock skid plate and it's hangers to get it to fit. It was quite a job but now that it's in I love it. There is very little cargo space in my 40 series and that's reserved for my surf/camping gear. This is why I wanted something to fit above the rear axle and not in my back seat/cargo area as some tanks do.
I'm using a hotfox fuel pick up and blocking off the original pickup. I'm also adding an aux. fuel pump just after the tank as I don't want the stocker pump to have to work to hard sucking SVO, especially if it's not hot and viscous yet. I figure another pump is a decent investment although some may think it's not necessary. For about 100 bucks it's worth over building to avoid a headache later.
There is a post here somewhere on this site with more details of my project. The only trouble with this tank is that it was over 1K CDN by the time it was shipped to me. You might consider coating the inside of any tank you're installing if it's steel with POR or something similar as veggie has a polymerization reaction with SVO.
That's a great looking rig. I'll bet it wasn't cheap!

I would be interested in seing this kit, etc...

as I want a duel tank in my new-to-me BJ 44. I am actually considering making one. I am planning on running vegi oil, so explosion risk is low. One tank will be diesel, and one a heated vegi oil or biodiesel tank.

Are there any other options out there?

fabbing will be fun that's for sure!

It depends what you're willing to give up. I REALLY need my cargo space for my surf&camping shit (dry bags, wetusits, ARB cooler etc.) If you're ok with giving up some cargo space a fabbed up tank for inside would be ok. However, most veggie outfits could sell you a generic tank in a rectangle shape or the like that you could stick back there and it would avoid fabbing hassles.
The aux. tank from Aus. that I got from Manafre went in super tight (read- close tolerances with no room for errors--no leeway). There is no real room over the rear axle where you could easily make a fabbed up tank. The point is unless you're a fab wiz or do it for a living I think it would be really hard and very time as the tank is a non-uniform shape; it sits over to one side more than the other etc.............to me that's a nightmare but maybe to a real fab guy it's no problem.
I figured the veggie payoff will happen in time --basically a year of driving around town and to the shore to surf--so I didn't mind throwing an extra grand or so into a tank that was made for that exact spot. That's just my opinion.
I'm almost wired up. I've got to finish wiring and some plumbing and then it's test time. I'm looking forward to getting my rig back.

Thanks for the input. I would love to hear more about your WVO setup. I go back and forth with what I need but I agree over-building is probably the way to go.

Thanks
