3b Q's fuel shutoff/edic????

i have a 82 bj60 3b

is this wiper motor looking thing on the drivers side rear of the block for shutoff of the fuel only or more???? mine is unhooked and a manual cable shutoff is what is being used right now....would like to find out if i need it or not??????it moves a lever on the top that looks like it was connected to the inj pump lever????

cheers:beer:

post some pics but i think i know what u r talking aboot

i think what you are talking about is the edic (electronic diesel injection controller) it is important because it should be hooked up to the low oil pressure switch (shuts down the engine when there is little to no oil pressure) so yes it is important try and hook it back up to original spec's (my opinion take it or leave it) but it will save your engine from a rebuild or worse if there is no oil pressure there might be more that its hooked up to but the oil pressure is the main reason for keepin it intact.

yeah i will get some pics when it's light tomorrow.
I'm new to bj60's but sounds like the EDIC i think... i would like to keep the engine healthy so fixing this system is important. i need the linkage between them i guess? it's missing....

does this e.d.i.c. also shut off the engine when you turn the key off?????

Yup, it has three positions, overinjection for starting, normal for running, and a stop position to, well, stop the engine. You should get it hooked up properly so that a) you get easier starting with the overinjection position and b) as mentioned above, you have the low oil pressure safety feature.

why yes it does, so you can say bub bye to that cable (im assuming thats how u shut it off)

pics will be helpful to tell if its all there
plus there is a relay or controler on the drivers side kick pannel that controlls the edic (look in to that if its missing)

yes i'm using a cable (temporary)....the linkage was disconnected and was lost before i got it....what are the positions??..toward the fire wall is off and i'm guessing toward the front is over injection? and middle run or vice a versa??? also where could i get the linkage rod in between the edic actuator and the fuel lever???

oh and thanks all for the help.

you might be able to rig your own up not 100% sure of the length as iam out of town for 3 days and cant measure it for you (its aboot 9" from what i recall) but it is a solid bar with two fittings one at each end and they just slide over th nipples on the edic arm and the fuel lever

toyota still might sell them not sure of the part number though

all the way toward the firewall is overinject in the middle is run and to kill the engine pull the lever towards the front of the vehicle

Hi Moterra

This picture may help. It shows the start (overinjection), drive and stop positions:

........... are they ever done really......

Never a truer word spoken :D

....... you just need a good photo sharing website to use like photobucket.com or something........

Or buy a "silver star" on MUD and load your photos directly onto their site.

Hey MOTERRA - Nice truck. Is that colour called "sky blue 854" - which is the colour of my 40? (It certainly looks similar.)
