3-B Exhaust manifold gasket source

Hi All

My local Toyota dealer informed me the exhaust manifold gasket is no longer available (Canada)
Has anyone purchased one of these recently from Toyota (within the last month) or does anyone have a aftermarket part number??

TIA

Ask your dealer to see if it can be ordered from Japan or is in the warehouse in California. Many times they check the canadian stock and give up.....lazy bastids

Yeah ask them if its still in the system but doesn't show as obsolete it might still be available. I ordered a window regulator for my BJ74 and they weren't sure if it was still available but they tried and low and behold it showed up. Had to come from Japan but it only took a week. You can also try Japan4x4 here on mud. He's in Japan and ships parts direct. He's a real good guy to deal with.

The problem is they are used to regular vehicles. The Land Cruiser parts take some effort.

I needed a "buffer" for the spring pack on the rear of my 60 and it had to come from Japan. In fact I've had lots of parts that were not in stock anywhere and I only had to wait a couple weeks. Your parts guy is being a slump.

As far as it being discontinued I am not sure I buy that. 3b's were sold in droves around the world and many are still operating. Something as simple as a gasket should be available.

Thanks for all the help;

Eric, the acl gaskets are not sold in canada I either order from Aus or I have a US reps number I will call in the morning and see if he will sell to an individual (western canada rep wasn't sure if they can sell to me or not??)

Tmarx, thanks a lot for taunting me like that! still wiping my drool off the keyboard. When I saw those gaskets laying on the floor I thought you were throwing them away!

canuck and brownbear, In the past this guys been great (very patient and helpfull) a few months back he said he could order the part, the other day its no longer in the system? I have to pickup parts from toyota tommorrow so I will try what you have suggested, maybe face to face I can convince him to dig for me.

In the meantime I will keep checking all the sources I can find, and post the results (if any) in the sticky

Thanks again

also I might ask why are you replacing it?

When I installed my turbo manifold I used my old gasket with a bead of red rtv around the surfaces on both sides, then tightened it up to torque. I felt if the gasket had any irregularities to it the rtv would fix it. I have not noticed any leaks with my tests in the garage but have failed to try it further.

Hi Brownbear
I need to replace my drop pipe studs to get rid of the exhaust leak and would rather have all the parts on hand. I doubt this manifold has ever been off and i expect i'll be drilling out bolts etc no idea if the gasket is in good shape or not?

Cheers

I went to toyota to pickup something, and i ask for a manifold gasket

Part number for my BJ42 1983 is 17173-56022, currently 2x instock in Toronto and i would pay 13$.

Check again with your dealer or go to a other one.

That number is not exactly the same but the part should work I think?
Could you send me the phone number for that dealer? I would like to call them tommorrow and see If they will ship one to me.

Thanks

Did quote the part number, the guy knows how to look up parts? he's ordered stuff for me before.
The interesting part, I called the toyota dealer 60 miles away and he looks it up says its in stock in Vancouver (overnight ) and is shipping it to me!

I have found though out any parts business not all parts guys are equal. I've been to Napa, all different OEMs etc. If you find a good parts guy and he is on a days off..wait for him. It's worth it.

For some they just don't have the search ability or "feel" for finding what you need. They may be fine on the computer, but maybe they are missing a step and are not experienced to realize they missed it.

Having the EPC on your own computer and bring the numbers seems to help. The japan/Europe EPC files have more modern info on the LC. The NA ones that they have in Town locally may not have the latest PN for a certain part cause production was too long ago. Where as this production continued in other markets.

hey freebie guy... the part number you are requesting is for an 84 and up (17173-58010)... for your bj42 1981 model you need A 17173-56020 straight from my catalog. (17173- is exhaust 17172- is intake) I am not sure of the 17173-56022, this might be an oem number change

Here it is!

The gasket that is no longer available from Toyota (local dealer) arrived yesterday from a Toyota dealer 60 miles away? who had no trouble finding it in Vancouver
Here's a picture showing the part number, it seems there are several different part numbers for the same gasket based on the model and year, not sure still new to toyota parts and the EPC

fairly typical for toyota dealers around here to be like that. my favourite, is demanding I prepay for a 3 dollar shifter bushing.

my waterpump was the same way, nanaimo were total dicks about it, no discount, not here, don't know when it will be.

I know this is old but I thought I'd bring it up again,

I just got this gasket from my local Toyota dealer, ordered it yesterday, picked it up today. There wasn't even a question with it. It was stock in Vancouver.

Anyone else see these gaskets and use them?

This gasket looks odd.... too thin to seal a warped manifold. Mine on my 84(late 83 build) is thick. But like a said they last freaking forever. I re-used my
