Unhappy toyota diesel engine oil leaks - don't be shy...

just a little curios to what toyota diesel engine oil leaks you have.

i have a very minor oil leak from my turbo down pipe and also my oil pan plug sometimes leaks if it's not tightened correctly.

i feel better now....

my oil plug tends to stay "wet" too. also i get one drop from the breather after the engine cools down and everything condenses...

Niagara Falls? Oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, side cover gaskets, rear main seal, injector pump diaphragm/gasket... Is there's a gasket or sela, mine leaked. It was so bad, my mom asked me to stop driving Sheila (HJ60) to her place because of how bad it was staining her driveway.
I'll let you know how it goes with all new seals and gaskets once Tofudebeest (Sheila reincarnated) is back up and running.

Hmmm. Well on my rig I don't have a leak anywhere. But if my wife's Tercel could have water in the crankcase instead of oil, it would look right at home in the square of any fine European city.

My '84 BJ60 doesn't leak a drop... 404K on it...

My '81 BJ42 doesn't leak a drop... 250K on it...

My '82 BJ 60 leaks quite a bit from the oil pan gasket.. 346K on it... but it's the only one not driven anyway!

The worst leak is from the side cover gasket. I need to tighten those bolts every once and a while. I've had to replace the oil pan on both the '60 and the '55 due to pinholes from rusting.

Ive looked under dozens if not hundreds of 1HZ and I think they are a low leak engine.
Im not saying they dont leak, but compared to my old 3F they are a godsend

Ive seen tired old 1HZ get a bit drippy round the cam seal ,the rear main and the steering pump but its not common.

And by the way neither of mine leak.

No leaks on my 1HD-T. But then again it does only have 7K kms or so on it . To add to Rosco's comment, I think the later Toyota engines that used sealant in many places where gaskets were previously used leak far less. Quite the ass pain to remove though!

Have to squirt some oil every now and then to avoid my 1HZ being eaten away by rust. And it's my DD.

PTO seal on the inlet shaft drips in warm weather. No drips since October and hope to have it fixed before the next batch of warm weather in July.

Tappet cover gasket,
blow by tube (keeps the front driveshaft very well lubricated!)
Seal between the tranny and t-case
and most of the driveline seals? (in the warm weather)
Waiting to pull the tranny for the clutch replacement and all the seals while I'm at it.

Turbo down-pipe. Doesn't drip on the driveway though. All the oil blows back onto my exhaust.

I just replaced my '84 BJ60's rear main seal, oilpan gasket, side cover gasket, and x-fer case output seal. I hope that puts me @ no leeks. I'll see in a few weeks. I just have to adjust the clutch peddle and it should be back on the road.

1HD-T No leaks. Clean and shiny that I will eat off it
1KZ-T No leaks. Clean and shiny that I will eat off it

13B-T The turbo intake pipe gets oily a bit. No big leaks, so no drips on drive way. Infact if I wash it after every three months or so, you will never notice any oil and will eat off it. HA!

I might consider replacing CT 26 Oil Seal, if I can do it myself (is easy to do) and spare some time.

My 13BT looks pretty good except the starter motor which is a greasy mess. I think I need to do some turbo seals or maybe just swap in a Garrett.

The 3B with nearly 600,000 wash free km is fully protected under a layer of crude.

The Vortec is best of all, absolutely hasn't leaked a drop in ten years. (no oil in it)

my hd-t leaks @ the turbo down pipe. I suspect that the rubber is old and getting squishy. I should replace it.

I've also got some oil on the vacuum pump, but that could be drips from the power steering reservoir which has a leaky gasket on the lid.

Otherwise, things are pretty clean.... something is leaking a little bit by the last injector (closest to firewall) don't know if it is diesel or the valve cover leaking, but it is pretty minor.

My 2b had a head gasket leaking oil took me awhile to figure where the oil was coming from. Once I found it it was an easy fix, leak free now. I think the problem was because it was a 1980 with 86km, too much sitting around and not being driven. Oh by no means am I bitching about a low mile engine

1HD-T - 125,000kms: The only leak of anything on mine is a bit of power steering fluid from one of the fittings on the steering box. Never enough to form a drop, just damp. Otherwise dry as a bone!

no idea, everywhere? Oddly enough I stopped having to top up the oil after replacing the exhaust manifold gaskets. I wouldn't have thought that would do it?? Now my 3b just kind of happily bathes itself instead of dripping...

Alright, here's a fun one: I just popped the hood (60 w/hz-t), I have oil staining on the top airtube at the manifold & at the turbo. ARGH!! - did I smoke a turbo in less than 15,000 miles/ 2 years? OR do I just have a VSV valve missing, or some other easy fix? We'll see soon.

The only other oil drib is out of a couple TC bolts - 1 drop every 2 weeks. BOB

I have leaks from the Oil Pan gasket, transfer case and transmission. I have quite a bit of work ahead of me to patch them up a bit. I'm looking around the Lower Mainland for gaskets, especially oil pan, any sources people? I also have a pretty good leak from my injector pump. Anyone know a good mechanic for re and re of that?

few drips from main seal on driveway after almost every drive...

the entire engine is in cased in oil from seeping gaskets and 22 years of oil coatings, mostly Krown and rust check products....

it doesn't use/drip enough to even top up at 7000km oil change intervals...
more than I could say for almost any highmiledge gasser

crap, i can not remember all the different oil leaks i have seen over the years
3B oil pan gasket
3B head gasket
3B oil drain plug
3B tappet cover gasket
3B side cover gasket

PZ and HZ seem pretty tight actually
most turbos leak a bit

if it ain't leaking then something is wrong...best check your oil level...<LOL!>

still not as bad as a Rover shit box...puddles everywhere you stop.
