What do you guys think of the idea of changing an exhaust manifold gasket clearing up a serious oil disappearing problem? Does that sound plausible? Because it seemed to happen...

The only other oil drib is out of a couple TC bolts - 1 drop every 2 weeks. BOB
It was bad turbo seals. All fixed now, 1,000 miles on it and no oil leaks on the Hz-60 - none. And yes, I know that is a temporary situation. Bob

HZJ77 with 1HZ - Rear main seal leak... Only after long distance
driving... Drops about 5 or 6 drops and then stops. 200,000 kms on the engine.

Hmmm... maybe my BJ60's oil leak isn't so unique after all then! I thought it was possessed. Sometimes it leaks, sometimes it doesn't. 3B with 332,000 kms. Just changed rear main oil seal plus a bunch of others (but not head gasket). Sometimes leaks coolant and possibly transfer case oil too. And sometimes it doesn't.

I thought the leak gremlins were paying me a visit. For more details, check out this thread.

I used Toyota FIPG black (Form In Place Gasket). No cork required.

I always say if you dont see any drips, you have a problem.
It means there is no oil in there

3B-300K miles daily driver, does not leak a drop. Was leaving fuel here or there from the fuel tank, JB weld fixed that quick though.

um.................well................you see the piston rings on my 61 leak oil but obviusly this only provides smoke how ever the extra presure in the block pushes the little oil left out thru a hole on the back of the timing case where a piece of gasket is missing, this leaves a line of drips on any driveway.

P.S. where is the best place to get piston rings?in europe.

Try Toyota or try http://www.milneroffroad.com/. If not them, then ask them for ecommendations.

Update on mine... a few days ago I took my BJ60 on a 40 km drive, when parked it didn't leak a drop of anything. Yesterday I took it on a 600 km drive to Montreal and there were 4 small oil spots on the ground after parking. Not wanting to hijack this thread, I'll post some details and questions in a new thread specific to my BJ60.

I am thinking blow-by from worn rings. I am pressuming the crank case vents up through the block and head to the rocker cover and out the hose into the intake manifold. If you still have good power and no problems with run on, then don't worry about it.

Rovers leak? Must be a Brit thing then 'cause my Norton leaks everywhere- gearbox, crankcase, carbs. It's really funny to pull up next to a guy on a modern bike and see the urgent look on his face as he says,

"Hey, your bike's leaking something!"

"Oh yeah, it came from the factory that way."
