Jumping my FBJ60

So I install new headlights yesterday....nod to Daniel Stern....
get home last night and forget to turn them off.....
nice....

AAA is on the way, my question in 12V two battery setup, I leave the batteries hooked up and attach the jumpers to the battery that goes to the starter, yes?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Thanks,

The guy was here.....couldn't get it started....so we plugged the block heater in and he is coming back in a bit, 30-45 minutes later. She would turn over but not really enough the start up...

Grab a tow strap and pull it down the road in either second or third gear and she will fire right up, your batteries will charge up as you drive.

Been there.

You can also change to a full synthetic 0W40 motor oil for some fantastic winter starting, less resistance when turning over your engine.

Well after the nice tow truck driver came back it finally started....
He was kind of impatient and didn't want to let the battery get a good charge.....anyway it started and all is good.

I am running Amsiol 10w40 synthetic, here in Seattle, fairly mild winters.

I don't think he was going to let me throw a tow strap on....
I have started many rigs that way just never a diesel and didn't have any means to pull it

She ran great the rest of the day.

Thanks for the tips and the confirmation...

Tim

A few tips here... you can connect to either battery in a 12V system. Often one is dead and the other is just low. By connecting to the battery that goes to the starter, you just reduce the chances of a bad connection and a few more feet of cable getting in the way.

If you want to bump start it, you should flip the key into the crank position for a split second just as you let the clutch out to kick the EDIC over into the start position - or disconnect the EDIC control rod so that the engine will start up quickly.

If your batteries are not charged properly - and you should charge each one independently by disconnecting the joining wire - you will continue to have problems. Clean your terminals well and check that your grounds are really good.

seconding the edic thing...had my glow relay stick a few months back, and killed the batts, so I got a guy at work to tow me down the road to jump it.

realized after a couple dumps of the clutch and no firing that the edic was still in the off position, as there was no power to move it to start...popped off the arm and fired right up. smoked like hell, but started....
