Engine Diagnostics On An 80?
Does anyone have one of these plugs mounted on the bulkhead of their 80 and if so what is it used to diagnose? My 80 is one of the last ones made (for the UK anyway) and does not have the EDC injection fitted to the later 100 series. It is also a manual so there is no auto box ECU etc.Asked my local dealer, who are normally pretty good, and their head mechanic had no idea as it was something they had never used.So I'm left wondering what the hell it does?? Don't want to start poking around with a meter incase something goes pop. __________________ Phil '98 Amazon 4.2TD '04 Yamaha R1 '03 GT XCR3000 '95 Border Collie |

Engine is 1HD-FT.The 1HD-FTE was never fitted to the 80 series. The 'E' in the engine designation means electronic injection (EDC).It's adoption was to meet ever tightening emmision laws.
Been trawling through the wiring diagrams and can't find a mention of this plug.I'm starting to think it's either something to do with the EGR system (which I've disconnected anyway) or maybe the cruise control? __________________ Phil '98 Amazon 4.2TD '04 Yamaha R1 '03 GT XCR3000 '95 Border Collie |

The plug shown is a standard Toyota diagnostic plug. Many scanners/lab scopes can plug into these using the Toyota adapter, but without the appropriate software the information will, in all likelihood, be useless.
My Snap On scanner with the North American Asian package will not provide a matching vehicle/engine designation with which to read the data stream. It would be nice to have this software, but I am unaware if it is available (I have looked for it briefly). If anyone from another market area using a Snap On Modis (or similar) has this software, I'd be interested in it. __________________ 1978 FJ40 - parts vehicle - PM me 1987 HJ61 VX 5spd - loaded - daily driver 1981 BJ42 - ARBs, Warns, oba, ps, h55f, hws, soa |

But what does it diagnose? The 1HDFT is full mechanical.
The A442 is electronic and the cruise control on the 80 series have a diagnostic feature but I think it uses the cruise light on the dash- flash sequence I believe. __________________ -Peter Mac- 1990 HDJ81 1997 40th 1967 Norton Atlas 1986 Yamaha RZ350 1996 Ducati 900SS SP Ya...it's like crack to me... www.bestinshowexhibits.com |

Here are a few suggestions: Air bags ABS data Body control module Engine sensor readings (temp, tach etc) Without the software support, it's not possible to plug into it and get useful data... Japan does have a Snap On scanner available to their market that's different than other markets - maybe there are a few answers to be had from 'Mud readers in Japan. __________________ 1978 FJ40 - parts vehicle - PM me 1987 HJ61 VX 5spd - loaded - daily driver 1981 BJ42 - ARBs, Warns, oba, ps, h55f, hws, soa |
