Its best to buy the whole engine gearbox assembly. They use G52 and R150? R151 gearboxes but Im sure there are others. I dont know if the earleir models had autos,I think they would be fairly slow. Im not trying to get rid of you but there are sites such as ToyotaDiesel.com Forums - Powered by vBulletin that are more attuned to your type of swap. Its mainly Landcruiser diesels here which share some of the Hilux diesels . __________________ HZJ75 cab chassis 95 model ,stocker FJ73+1HZ Diesel NEW GEARBOX 1HZ =same power as 3F with 30% better fuel economy 2in Dobinsons lift.Powerdown adj shocks 33 in BFG A/T HJ61 with slidin windas regrettfully SOLD:(Volvo 740 GL |

Few shops will provide an estimate for this kind of work since it's very specialized and very time consuming, so expect - in most cases - to pay time and materials. Make sure you're clear about a timeline for completion. ~John __________________ 1978 FJ40 - parts vehicle - PM me 1987 HJ61 VX 5spd - loaded - daily driver 1981 BJ42 - ARBs, Warns, oba, ps, h55f, hws, soa |

Save your time and money, buy something with a diesel in it already and rebuild it if you need to. Is an 88 4Runner really the platform you want to spend thousands throwing a diesel into?

Converting a vehicle that came in a diesel version is somewhat easier than retro-fitting one (not that the Surf/4runner didn't also come with a diesel, it's just that the 2LTE is not really a very good engine to trade "up" to). __________________ 1978 FJ40 - parts vehicle - PM me 1987 HJ61 VX 5spd - loaded - daily driver 1981 BJ42 - ARBs, Warns, oba, ps, h55f, hws, soa |
