Air in fuel line of a bj71
Hi there,
When the weather is cold, I get air in the fuel line of my bj71. I have to use the primer to release the air. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how I might be able to resolve this issue, other than having to prime the engine on cold days. Thanks. |

Anywhere there is seepage should be fixed. The primer pump itself maybe letting in air which is common . __________________ HZJ75 cab chassis 95 model ,stocker FJ73+1HZ Diesel NEW GEARBOX 1HZ =same power as 3F with 30% better fuel economy 2in Dobinsons lift.Powerdown adj shocks 33 in BFG A/T HJ61 with slidin windas regrettfully SOLD:(Volvo 740 GL |

Rosco,
Thanks for the info. My primer is an old plastic one, so maybe one of the new steel primers will be better. |

I used to own an HJ60 ( 4 l diesel ) and also had air leaking into the fuel, also had to use the primer pump to rid the air from the system. The problem came somewhat erratically every month or so, and was never so bad that I had to crack the injectors to bleed air, just the primer pump, but it did cause the motor to gag and even stall.
The problem was eventually solved as a pin hole leak in the fuel line due to rust or gravel rash, very near the fuel tank. The leak was found by emptying the fuel tank and slightly pressureizing with compressed air ( very low pressure) and then putting soapy water all along the fuel system until I saw bubbles. We needed to replace a short piece of the line. |

I'll second the small leak in the fuel system.
I had a similar issue with my HJ60, air in the fuel system especially after driving on the highway. Traced it back to a small pin hole leak in one of the fuel line connectors on the gas tank. __________________ JoeTLCA # 6363 Yankee Toys Gotham City Land Cruisers Connecticut Open Access Land Trust Northeast Association 4 Wheel Drive Clubs Tread Lightly - Tread Trainer National Off-Highway Conservation Council 1977 FJ55 - for fun (x2) 1979 FJ40 - the wife's 1986 HJ60 - my dd 2007 FJC - my second dd? |
