Adding power steering to older BJ60?
Time to tap the collective knowledge of this group again (I've searched the archives but can't find an answer to my question, which is...)
I own an early BJ60 (with non-power-assisted steering). The standard steering is tight, works well and does not pose problems for me when out on the road, but around town it can cause some serious arm workouts, if I don't park strategically in parking lots! (like that time recently in the crammed video store parking lot, man, I didn't think I'd get out of there!) ![]() So: I may consider adding power steering to my rig at some point, and may start locating the necessary bits and pieces over the next few months. I have a feeling that the convenience of power steering may outweigh some of the minuses - cost and work required to retrofit, loss in (already limited) engine power, less "simple" system for venturing off in out-of-the-way places. Question: Other than the power steering box (which the seller of my truck indicated he had a good spare from an HJ60 that he would give me - and which I trust would fit my BJ60), what other bits and pieces are needed to effect this conversion, and does someone on the group have good used specimens of these bits they may be willing to part with? How much work is involved in the conversion, and anything in particular to watch out for? Thanks again! __________________ Current rig(s): 1992 HZJ80 LHD 215Kms SOLD: 1982 BJ60 3B H42 230Kms and counting Still planning an expedition... Last edited by rstl99; 11-14-07 at 06:48 PM. |

I love power steering
I've driven a few trucks without it and I can't stand hurting my arms in a parking lot....Order them from Gord and live the good life.....LOL __________________ -84 BJ60, Finally on the FN road! -91 FJ80, wife's ride Iron Butt award winner of the Cruise Moab 08 ! |
