GNUB Intro
Hi All,
I originally posted an intro in the VI Cruisers clubhouse but wanted to say hello to a larger group. So, I am currently in the market for my first cruiser and have searched extensively on MUD and have found lots of great info. I have explored buying a US cruiser and importing it, buying a local cruiser (way more money) and buying a JDM. I just can't seem to resist the idea of a spotless, RHD diesel to explore our new Vancouver Island home. So, I'd like to get your impressions of a couple of things so that I can finally get that cruiser in the driveway. It appears that Luxury and Outback are good for me because they import some pretty nice stuff and I am definitely a mechanic. Anyone have experience to back this up? or any other recommendations. Can anyone give me an idea of differences between a 90 and a 92 HDJ81? Things like: rear shoulder belts, ABS, rear disc brakes, etc. Did they all come with heated seats, center cooler, etc. Is there any real difference (all other things being equal) between one with 90kms and 120kms (55k and 75k miles)? If I find a sweet cruiser without lockers, can they be added later if I find that I really need them? Thanks All, J |

Wayne, who runs Luxury, is as knowledgeable and honest as they come. There is absolutely no doubt that you will get great service and a great product from him. You can retrofit lockers. The easiest is to add air lockers (opinions about them vary)-about $1500 for retrofitting. or you can swap in axles with Toyota lockers (very VERY expensive, if you can find them at all). cheers, jan __________________ turboed 84HJ60, in San Diego. |

One big difference is that Wayne will give you a warrenty - which is almost unheard of. Oytback does ot warrenty their vehicles. However, I have heard that if problems occur after purchase that they do their best to make them right. I am not sure how far they would go with this. I believe that Marco sold his shares in Outback. The owners of Outback don't do the vehicle prep. This is done by ATEB in burnaby. They really know their stuff. The only down side with Wayne is that he is moving his operation to Ontario. Why don't you try PMing him? He goes by "Crushers" incase you don't know.
