One of my red top optima batteries was at 9 volt this morning. I was wondering why the red light for the solar converter never came on, all fuses are okay. Does anyone know how to check the circuit for the red light without frying the converter?

If the "red light" comes on at low voltage you can test it by stringing together AA batteries + to -. they are 1.5 V each, so start with 8 batteries for a total of 12 Volts and remove one at a time from the circuit until you hit a point where the light comes on. As long as you use fresh batteries you should be able to find out where the voltage limit is. My guess is the sensing circuit has failed you...

From the material I send via e-mail: "The converter we supply has two LED's on 4" leads. I suggest extending the LED's into the cab. The green LED, when hooked up in load balance mode is an indication of circuit board health. The red LED will come on when the batteries are 5% off the center value. If you know you have taken a large load (over 20 amps) off the 12V side, wait a few minutes for the converter to balance the batteries; the light will go out. If the light does not go out, or you have not taken a large load off the 12V side battery, check the fuses inside the unit." Shoot me a note at info@gscruiserparts.com. Thanks gb |
