Well I got my 1/2 of an hj60 and it is time to put it in my fj40. It is a very rusty ,with a H55 with vacum shift transfer case. It has 206,000 km(about 120,00 miles). I have a few questions;
1) can i convert the vacum shift on the transfer to mechanical
2) I am thinking of changing the 2H from 24 volt to 12 volt. I have heard that a toyota forklift starter will work. Does any body have or know where I can get a 12 volt alternator and EDIC. The 2h's from OZ all ran 12 volt systems.
3) Will the 2H bolt up to the stock 2F front motor mounts and will I have to cut the frame crossmember and floor boards

1. Yes you can but the parts are hard to get and kind of expensive.

2. Keep the 24 volt system. It is WAY superior to 12 volt. Put in a converter for all your 12 system requirements.

3. Dont know about the motor mounts.

Many 2H parts can be found at a toyota industrial dealer in the US or Canadian Toyota dealerships.

Visit Toyota Canada to locate the closest canadian dealer or,

Vistit Toyota Industrial to find the nearest industrial dealer.

All aftermarket can easliy be sourced from Australia. Maybe some of the Ausy folk can help with some contacts. I have a bunch somewhere too, just gotta find them....

Be sure to keep and use the H55F crossmember, that will help locate the engine in the bay so you know where to put move the mounts if necessary.

I guess I should sell it aye.

candidly i'll venture a guess and say the mounts should line up, apparently most toyota straight 6's share the same engine mounting possies...

From all that I've read when I was highly debating a 2H into my 40, that yes indeed the mounts fit up. And I might be very wrong, but doesn't a 2F/3F starter work on a 2H?

i didn't know that there were even diesel powered fork lifts... i thought they were 2f's

i think a 2f starter would work, although they'd be 12volt, not 24

The turbo kit is priced @ $ 3300 and is complete with a Garrett water
cooled turbocharger with custom built turbine and compression housings
developed to suit the 2H 60 engine ,as the turbo is water cooled the oil
cooler kit is not required unless the vehicle is used for heavy towing ,
being front mounted they can be damaged in off road conditions by foreign
objects or vibration so it would be best to only fit one if highway towing
on a regular basis , we manufacture only one kit for the 2H 60 and no
upgrades or options are needed

its officially on route but a little behind schedule, right now its looking like the 12th...but that gives me time to seal up the front end, order some switches and remove those damn tints....

When you get it all in order and as the process comes along take photos, I would love to add it to my website. I agree with the converter idea, run two batteries in series as 24V. Use relays to power the headlights and a converter to power the 12V items like the running/tailights etc. 24 Volt rules...

I have been gathering parts and working on the swap alittle over the summer. It is time to get this project moving. here is an update on what i have got for parts.
1)got parts from cruiser parts.net to switch from vacum to mechanical 4wd linkage.$230 with gaskets, I put it on and it works great except i have an easy modification of the 2-4wd linkage.
2)got new 12volt toyota alternator from cruiserparts, new toyota $169
3) got reman 12 volt toyota starter from 4wheel auto in edminton for about $300. i will combine my starter and the new to make one. (initially toyota industrial said that the 2H was never in a forklift, I explained That is was and what years and models and they found new and reman for about $500)
4) got 12 volt glow plugs

I cleaned up the motor and tranny and set it in. The 2H motor mounts are WAY different and will not work. The FJ60 frame is about 28 inches wide and theFJ40 frame is 24 inches wide. We are making some new motor and frame mounts and will probaly use the 2H rubber mounts.

The clearence to the fan is really close and the 2F shroud will not work.

Has anybody done this conversion?
1) It looks like about 6" from motor to drivers side frame and 8" on the other, comments?
2) was the gear shift lever centered on the hump?
3) did you use the cluth fan assembly from the 2H ?
