In line water separator

My bj42 arrived from NZ last week and I am enjoying cruising in it and am having fun fixin and fiddlin with it. I noticed what I believe to be an original water separator under neath pass side [RHD Cruiser], it is there but not plumbed and there is an electrical connection .So is this a water separator and fuel pump? I suppose there was a problem with it and PO bypassed it and relied on fuel filter a/o additives to control H2O. Should I try to restore this unit ?Run as is [It runs well],or go high tech Racor filter route??

you are right, the wires are for a water sensor, should be a light on the dash for it. i would definitely get it back in service. the original would be nice to keep if you can, but you can buy aftermarket as well.

That would be your sedimenter. It will catch water and sludge. The electrical hook ups go to a yellow filter light on the right of your steering collum, I'm guessing you have rhd. Congrats on your BJ42 and show some pics.

I get some rust issues with my factory Toyota water separator ( air in line it's lethal to my 2H ) and ended chaging it for a delphy one .. in the same place.

I am paraphrasing other posts on this site, so large grain of salt here!

The filter light is also connected to the alternator and can indicate an alternator problem. Or the switch on the float is toast.

Yup. About six inches up the wires from the sedimenter is a connector - disconnect it. If the light goes off, then your float switch is bad. If the light stays on, you have a problem with your charging circuit (alternator, diodes, regulator, etc).
