The output shafts of my transfercase lost fluid, while turning, before they were rebuilt. it is a common issue.

I bet it only shows when you are going uphill because the fluid levels are low already.

neetu, welcome the forum.

I suggest cleaning the trans/transfer case really well with degreaser. Then go for drive and check it out. Could be the output shaft seals. That is where my truck leaks.

Might be between the seams. How bad does it leak? If it is a little tiny bit and you don't have to top it up often I would live with it till you want to rebuild the cases.

It could be the tranny being over filled from the transfer. I've had that happen when the tranny/transfer seal goes bad.

It's a common '60 series thing not exclusive to diesels. You may want to search the '60 forum too.

Mine does that.

I plan to "join" the filler plugs with a hose. Only because at 240K kms I highly doubt it needs a rebuild and I do not want to just do a seal job.

Although my output shaft seal on the rear is blown out. I have it sitting ready to replace.

Yep, I've had the hose on mine for a year or so. I plan on a seal replacement in the next few months. Then the hose goes back into the tool box for next time!

I've had the "hose" from filler plug to filler plug for years, untill recently, upon a rebuild of both the tranny and transfer cases.

The rear output shaft bearing was pooched which in turn tends to ovalizes the rear output seal, followed by gear oil creeping onto your rear driveshaft and spraying the underside of your truck as it rotates and/or dripping onto the ground.

The return "hose" was a great fix.

How do you know that it only does it uphill?
