3B EDIC relay/glow plug timer
I'm using a 3b out of an '83 BJ 60. I've got the factory manuals but they aren't helping me find some of the electrical parts. I think the EDIC relay is on the driver's kick panel but neither of the boxes there seem to have the red, blue, yellow and green wires that I'm expecting. Also, I haven't located the glow plug timer yet. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks, Lance __________________ '83 BJ 60 & '79 CJ-7 3B turbo diesel |

The EDIC controller should be attached to the side wall of the truck body, in the vicinity of the glove box. The timer should be in the driver's footwell, again attached to the sidewall of the body. The timer unit is approx. 3" x 4" x 1". The glow plug relay is on the inner fender apron, next to the starter relay.
Here's a picture showing the EDIC controller, which might help in your search for its location: Last edited by Henry James the 47th; 01-12-08 at 09:41 PM. |

henry has it... rh side kick panel area.
Timer is on the LH side. But seriously don't bother with the timer. Just wire a relay to a push button. The timer is IMOP too short of cycle. Unless of course you live in the south.. or OZ

The glow plug timer relay is located where abouts on the left side.. under the dash or in the engine compartment?

in the cabin, beside your left foot. Behind the plastic interior panels. Not under the dash but beside it.
The timer is great for using as a wheel chock for your kids bike, or might have some scrap value........... __________________ -84 BJ60, Finally on the FN road! -91 FJ80, wife's ride Iron Butt award winner of the Cruise Moab 08 ! |

VERY Noob Q (sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread):
The EDIC makes the click-click sound, right? The very few times I have had hard starts in my HJ, the click-click sound was at play. Sometimes I had to wait 15-30 seconds before attempting to turn it over again before I would get any response at all. Also, when I do my powertrain swap, (maybe as little as one month off), I will have to move over the ignition, correct? Is there a better way to glow this without spending dumb $? I know that in my wife's MB, there is no glowplug delay, it cranks right up (the glow plug light flicks on and then goes out in less than a second). I have new glowplugs in the HJ and the light stays on for 12-15 seconds as I hold the key in the glow position. I assume there's nothing stock in the FJ62 that would "replace" the glow plug system, right? I did say Noob Q... |

Easiest thing to do is forget about the factory glow system and rig up your own. Use a push button and relay under the hood. Make sure you get glow plugs that can handle the voltage you are applying |

Second, earlyHJ60's that have slow glob plugs need the more than 10 second glowing, and with the glow position on the key, the timer is only for the light, plugs glow as long as you hold the key in the glow position. |
