Upgrading Brakes
Having a stock BJ45 I am tempted to add a turbo (aren't we all :-). However, I have always been aware that coming to a halt from 100kmh faster than an ocean liner (I exaggerate) involves a certain amount of standing and praying. I am interested to know whether fitting discs all round is a must. I have heard in the past that the drums on the L'Cruiser were considered about the best of the drums on 4wds and that upgrading to discs made next to no difference but I suspect things have changed. I would interested in finding out what is involved in swapping and at what cost.
Ta. p.s. Have now painted "Remember you are my crumple zone" on my front bumper .... __________________ 1984 BJ45 FlatDeck 3B - Stock 1949 BSA A7 Star Twin Waimauku, Auckland, New Zealand -------------------------------------------- |

I certainly found this to be true on my old FJ45. If you switch the front to discs you will see a major improvement. I normally use the drilled and slotted version with DBA pads which are from Oz. Brakes are helpful, especially when you set-up a turbo....

when I upgrade froom 33" to 37" I go from normal brakes .. to No brakes.
after some search I decide simply my life and go with TSM kit .. but my recomendation is go without e-brake calipers and when you have the money go with the t-case e-brake from MAF.
