2L-TE Acting Weird
Hey all...
Have a '91 Prado that has started to smoke blue and is hard to start in that it runs rough and smokes like mad for a couple minutes. The engine seems to be missing as well. Problems seem to fade as the truck warms up??? Trusk is an auto with 80k. Any ideas? Checked the oil and it is ok. No antifreeze is leaking that I am aware of. Cheers, Craig. |

Glow plugs. Do a search on this forum for "glow plugs" and "2L-TE". Almost guaranteed it's your glow. You can get replacements at 4 Wheel Auto and perhaps elsewhere.

Blue smoke is oil smoke .I can drip down the valve guide seals or the rings could be worn.
I did notice its only done 80k but it has the symptoms of bad compression. The rough running is most likely the cyl with low compression not firing As the engines warms up,the pistons expand and the compression increases and everything comes good. I dont think its the glow plugs as they nearly always cause greyish smoke, but check them as it may help. Check it for air leaks also I think a compression test would be the best way to go. __________________ HZJ75 cab chassis 95 model ,stocker FJ73+1HZ Diesel NEW GEARBOX 1HZ =same power as 3F with 30% better fuel economy 2in Dobinsons lift.Powerdown adj shocks 33 in BFG A/T HJ61 with slidin windas regrettfully SOLD:(Volvo 740 GL |
